Always seems to be plenty of money for acquisitions.

IBM’s announced strategy is Hybrid cloud, AI, SW modernization (redhat), and Enterprise. Unless GBS’s government consulting was incredibly poor (almost impossible to believe given IBM being entrenched), this was a play for more consultants as IBM has way too much work. I expect Octo employees to move upscale into the IBM owned Enterprise engagements dragging maybe 15-20% of their current customers with them. The 80-85% of the existing Octo customer set will gradually be traded to the partner channel. Remember it’s all about “enterprise” and each division feeding the next. No more go it alone divisions

Will IBM replace current IBM Public Consultants with Octo employees?
I kind of have a feeling that was the purpose of buying Octo. Unless it was just to get Octo's current contracts.

This is IBM verifying they have more govt business than they can service. Octo currently has revenues of more than 500 million. My guess is IBM paid handsomely for that 500 million. So why do it? It raises IBM’s govt marketing force by 55% (2700 going to 4200). That kind of investment is either buying customers, or buying manpower, because you can’t hire it. My guess is IBM has far more business than it can staff and thus bought the manpower. Octo is about to move up to covering enterprise accounts

Just following the same strategy at all the other big Tech and Consulting companies.

Accenture and MSFT and all the others are still doing way more every year than us.

Arvind's 25th acquisition. "Innovation?" Not at IBM. Instead use money from raises that never happened to buy more companies.

A moment of silence for the soon to be fallen at Octo. More IBM roadkill and destroyed value.
