Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

San Antonio surplus!

There’s some solid information that’s come to my desk about mass layoffs for San Antonio coming within the next 6 months. They will be consolidating to a “super center” and will be laying off people that are getting paid a higher salary than what new reps off the street get. There’s absolutely no benefit for the company to keep paying senior employees close to or over $40 an hour when new employees get well under $20 an hour to do the same work. The company is going to start hiring new reps and once they have a solid amount to maintain the call volumes, they will start weeding out the old employees. Stay safe and be prepared folks. CWA STRONG!

I’m in that San Antonio office. What I think the OP means is because we have departments that are getting paid $40 an hour but they’re hiring new reps with a different title/department but doing the exact same thing for around $18 an hour plus commission

Call Center work is now in the hands of A. I. or as we like to say, "All India"

Thats already happening nation wide. You have the call centers in Miami and Mesa AZ taking core service rep calls but under a mobility title. CWA is aware and zero action.

@bj

Nailed it!

Seniority doesn’t mean anything if they close the entire center.

What they can do is shut down the whole center, and then bring it back with just contractors or overseas employees. That is what they’ve already been doing. Right under the CWA‘s nose for years. With nobody doing anything about it.

That’s absolutely not how union layouts work. Layoffs occurred by seniority so the newest hired will be the first out. The San Antonio current building will be closing and everyone is moving to a new building, but you don’t get to just cut your highest paid union people there’s a contract that has to be followed and layoffs must occur based on seniority. Nothing but a troll.
