Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Repost: When is Des Moines being shuttered?

The previous post was removed for no good reason. No rules were violated in the OP.

So, let's try again.

When is Des Moines being shuttered, and why is it taking so long?

Des Moines was previously identified as a 'specialty' (i.e. not go-forward) location.

Surely someone knows something.

The mortgage operations could easily be shifted to other sites, so that can't be it. Not to mention that the CEO plainly stated that mortgages aren't this bank's future.

@an The 4 buildings downtown Des Moines have been sold. There is no longer a Wells Fargo footprint there. Only one location remains, in West Des Moines...Jordan Creek.

The time line for Des Moines is just like every other domestic location: as soon as HY can possibly contract / AI / automate / outsource the tasks done there out of existence.

All of Des Moines is being squished into the West Des Moines location that is a complete remodel that is wrapped up next year and then we will see 4 days in the office.

I have no problem with IA. Rest assured though, WF has, many times, invested large amounts of $ in a building just a few years before closing it or selling it. It's not unusual or a sign of safety.

@e0 sure…wish I was as confident as you… leadership is clearly looking for more short sighted opportunities to cut costs.

West Des Moines is not being shuttered. They didn’t spend tens of millions of dollars to refurbish the whole site and relocate everyone there to “shutter it.” Grow up and worry about your own site and your Midwest bias, OP. Midwest workers are way more productive and harder workers than your East Coast bias. I’m sorry you had a bad experience from a few there that you need to slam the whole state with your biases.

What about technology? That may not exist within Des Moines in the future.

Des Moines is not closing. It's is a core market for several groups. The majority of employees moved to Jordan Creek and some downtown buildings were sold. It's a key employment hub for Wells Fargo.

I could not stand DSM when I spent 2 weeks there in 2023. And for a quiet laid back city the employeeswere a little rough around the edges.

Mostly mortgage and HR? Yikes, two of the bigger targets for downsizing etc. Not a good sign for that locations future.

@ay, pretty sure you're missing the point of the post. If you read the original post, they were talking about mortgage operations, but saying it's Des Moines. Mortgage Operations was done out of West Des Moines mostly. Anyone outside of Iowa who works for Wells just refers to anywhere (Des Moines buildings, old Clive buildings, West Des Moines buildings, etc. as "Des Moines"). Des Moines/West Des Moines, who cares. The point is, this area is not going away as a core location for certain enterprise functions and business groups. At least not planned anytime soon at this time.

All the hubs outside of I&P and HY will close. Matter of time. Does anyone here seriously think that once all the non-hubbers and remotes are gone that HY is going to stop? haha

All downtown sites have been sold, effective Aug. 2025.

West Des Moines is not Des Moines.

Des Moines is still a “core location” site for multiple enterprise functions and lines of business. Just because it’s listed as a “specialty” market in one area does not make it so in all the others.

To the person who said the Des Moines buildings have been closed, that is entirely incorrect. There is still a downtown Des Moines location and a West Des Moines location that is being maintained (and even modified) to house over 10,000 employees.

@OP your post read like you're someone who has difficulty drinking a glass of water.

Des Moines is NOT blanket listed as a "specialty" site. Possibly for some LOB's but not for the Enterprise, yet.

Stop mouth breathing and start focusing on paying attention.
