The University of Oregon has announced a new round of layoffs, affecting another 60 employees in its effort to close a significant budget deficit. This brings the total number of filled positions eliminated this year to 117.
According to university officials, the cuts are part of a broader plan to address a projected $25-30 million structural deficit for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, which is attributed to rising costs, declining enrollment, and limited state funding.
While the layoffs include 20 career faculty members, 42 officers of administration, and 49 classified staff, university leadership has confirmed that no tenured or tenure-track faculty positions or degree programs will be eliminated.
