Does it ever leave a bad taste in your mouth having to tow the BS line poured down from above. "I'm excited...", "we are all in...." We all know it's nonsense

@j1 "If Dell was serious about improving culture they would cut lose the 20% lowest ranking managers based on Tell Dell."
Yes, you would think so, but there are problems with that, and the leaders are causing them and using them as excuses. So many years, they will make personnel changes in April, moving "positive" people directly under them, and "negative" people to other managers - and then move them back after Tell Dell. Or, they will use the excuse that changes were made beyond their control, and the people were confused about which manager they were rating. And lastly, if the leader is a favorite of their leader, they ignore the Tell Dell numbers completely. I had a leader who always got very low scores, both in my department and his next department. He even threatened his new department when his evn lowers came in, demanding to know who told these lies about him. And what happened? He got promoted and moved to yet another department, who also hated him. Eventually he left on his own, and now makes millions at NVIDIA probably pi----g people off there, too. And why didn't he get fired from Dell? BEcause he was JC's pet, and Dell had paid to put him through MIT's MBA program. Upper Leadership, in general (not every one of them) su-ks!

Or allow people to transfer to different managers that are under the same director. Whoever manager then falls below the required headcount gets cut, or re-assigned.
Another former Director here. I was one of the good guys. My teams all told me I was the best boss they ever had. So, of course, my boss didn't like that, so I was moved to an equivalent IC role to "broaden my experience," and then downgraded a year later, when 82 Directors and Senior Consultants in Global Ops were all downgraded at the same time. Then I got downsized 2 1/2 years ago, and got a great new job in less than 2 months! No more of the Dell bullsh-t!
One of my Exec Director/VP bosses told me I wasn't a good Director, because I wouldn't fire one of my best workers, who he didn't like because the guy was too introverted - for a technical position! WTF??? Of course then that VP got in trouble for making outrageous demands of KB's Admin, when his own Admin was on vacation. But they did nothing to him, because he was one of JC's "disciples." He finally did leave the company. But he hated that I was getting Tell Dell scores of 93-95 every year, when he was getting in the 40's.
Typical Dell!
@b8 I was one of those too. Happy now that I got the foot though!
This is hands down the easiest way to tell if someone is good leader or not.
The ones that just re-iterate the corporate bullsh-t they are fed because they just want to save their own as--s, or even worse: actually believe in it, should be the first ones to be shown the door.
The best leaders I've had over the years have all been very much "Ok, so this is the latest bullsh-t that they've fed us; how can we make this work?".
Openly fall in line or get fired. Knowing whether they can live with these decisions and whether they can sleep at night, that is another question.
Former director here. Not a sociopath. Sometimes directors just love to manage people and have a good time doing it and are efficient and get things done; this is how I was and how I got promoted. I also worked really hard. And then came "the Bobs" and all that changed. I saw the signs and chose to change roles. I know and see a lot of directors that do genuinely care and want to have a fulfilling job and/or career. The "all in" mantra is in fact nauseating but how else would upper management motivate in a climate that is all but motivating? Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, and things have to be said to survive in a cutthroat environment. Sometimes, it is just a reflection of business; bad or good.
The people who believe the majority of "directors" at Dell have any more power than a front line manager are funny. Most "directors" have that title because they maxed out their manager pay band 10yrs ago.
Was going to say the same thing. They are all Narcs and sociopaths/psychopaths.
Power, title. If anyone cannot identify a sociopath, please educate yourself on this subject! It will help massively in your life, career, relationships, friendships and even family.
Don’t ever let these snakes let you feel less than because deep down they are very insecure and they hate themselves.
Their biggest fear is being exposed and shame. They are such weaklings stuck in a 5 year old mind.
To answer OPs question, yes!! They absolutely do feel it and avoid it like the plague even though they might seem untouchable. In fact, they are weaker than you with no self identity! All they are capable of is to copy others and compete with others.
These people reach those levels because of their sociopathic behaviour. So no, it doesn't leave a bad taste in their mouth. They lack the ability
