Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Facts

  1. You can perform your job remotely to the same extent you'd perform it at the office
  2. You're spending $30 on parking and walking miles, paying tolls, etc to sit on teams and do the same thing you'd do at home. I still haven't, to this day, met in person with anyone since RTO started.
  3. Your allocated to a sh---y shared space, without any of the tools you have at your home workspace, in a sh---y office, with tons of people on calls at the same time, screaming, doing work unrelated to your department and it's so distracting you just know in office days are basically 50% productivity maximum. I just expect that I'm never going to get anything of value done at the office.

@f3 most of us did not go to an office before the pandemic? Do you understand?

@f3

Back to this simple-minded worldview. "hurr durr, we did it before..."

Ok champ. Live your values.

We used to live in caves and bash animals with clubs. You do that for 90 days and I'll give up all RTO resistance. I may even lick a boot or two, if you show me how.

Deal?

Why was coming to the office not an issue before the pandemic? I don't understand what changed except people's mentality. The pandemic messed people up and many started crying over acronyms and self entitlement. Forcing everyone else to change for them. Glad all this is just a fad and we will eventually get back to the normal wake up go to work and live a respectful life.

I don't think people "get it" . This all revolves around Jerome Powell and his call for the past three years to push higher unemployment numbers , . The Fed messed up BIGTIME . They are desperately trying to remove liquidity from the system . Ask yourself , how do you do that. You lay off thousands of people, and you force the remaining to RTO so that they are spending money at a much higher rate on the road sitting in traffic and eating out for lunch. This is how you remove liquidity from the middle class. open your eyes, you dont get paid to sit in your car in traffic. You actually took a major payout and its going to take WAY more than a 2.8% raise to beat years of inflation. major payouts ..

"Tracking by hours is illegal"

It's actually not illegal even for exempt. What they can't do is use the missed time for pay deductions of exempt employees. Can anyone say that has ever happened here? I doubt it.

I left ATT after being there for 18 years at the start of 2025 when they decided to enforce the RTO. I want to tell those stool there that there is definitely life after that company. I will troll this board time to time and see everyone posting about the mandate. I was an Associate Director is sales and basically am doing the same for a competitor. The biggest difference is the culture. I am treated much fairer now. What I mean is I am treated as an adult. Life is much better. My pay is pretty much equal. Insurance is better. Bonus’s have been better as well. I have a sales team and we have a blast and are given so much more rope. Make the leap when you are ready.

“ If #2 can't happen then any calls taken to and from work and evenings and weekends should count as " productive hours".
Stankey/stinkey reports only track badges and Wi-Fi LaN and you all are getting no credit for hours off WIFI/ Lan. Travel time according to the law counts as hours work if it involves the performance of work while traveling (taking and making work calls).”

This is probably the most egregious thing imho. No credit for all the extra hours worked.

Some more:

  1. Tracking by hours is illegal. If the company wants to do that then everyone needs to file a Department of Labor claim that we should all be non-exempt and paid hourly. Then they will have a class action for all the back wages owed for nights and weekends worked. And you are owed for every minute taking calls on COU.

  2. They cannot force you to work after hours if you got work done during their designated hours. Refuse to take your laptop and company phone home. Leave it sitting on a shared work station given you have no dedicated space.

  3. If #2 can't happen then any calls taken to and from work and evenings and weekends should count as " productive hours".
