If he/she says you're safe, it doesn't have to be true. They like to smile and say the things that'll keep you off their backs, but most of it is not true. Make sure to look out for yourself.

Managers are just another employee. Yes they have some power over you but their managers have the same if not more power over them.
My manager told me I was safe because I was hard locked to a huge client. This project required me to travel and be on site from Sunday to Thursday. The Friday of the weekend before my first flight out and right before I booked my flight, I got that meeting from hr and my manager.

Currently for every 35 Employees we have a Director. ACN have 25 K directors. 65 K Managers, 30 K Sr. Managers across the Globe. In total we have 120 K and this will be reduced to 40% and some of their poistion will be moved few ranks down, if not they have to walk out on their own. This is one source of cost cutting and also they are going to reduce many of the rented offices plus stop the Stock options. Though close to 5 to 10 K (Highly Paid above 150 K Per annum) let go, they will also higher college pass outs and interns in thousands to serve the next few years.
Manages are not aware themselves who will be laid off, sometimes they get laid off with you.
