Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

When we’re gone

I have 28yrs and not many years to go . Who is going to want this job . Truthfully this company needs to decide . The T/E crafts in my location will lose yardmasters , engineers, trainmen at an alarming rate within the next 5/10 yrs . This industry has been dying for several years . Most folks won’t do this work . The schedule sucks , RR life sucks especially now . To the general public a one day strike is nothing compared to what is coming .

What makes you think they care? We are probably the last generation of well paid railroad workers. Lots of work is already done by scabs at 1/2 what we make. Check out Indeed.com sometime. You'll see non-union companies offering jobs around $19 to $20 a hour to do work currently done by craft people making double that.

They don’t care. Look at the piles of money they will make until then. After that there will be plenty of boarder crossers they can hire. Won’t need American workers.
