Thread regarding TransUnion layoffs

What’s Keeping TU Hiring

General economy and job data have been bad, but we still see hiring posts from TU and haven’t really learned about any workforce reduction initiatives .

What gives? Or is this about to change ?

TransUnion’s current hiring strategy feels no different than boarding a sinking ship. It's only a matter of time — likely just months — before the situation worsens.
Credit bureaus like TU have largely fixed income models, and with U.S. revenue growth stuck at a modest 3%, the company is now operating at a loss; lead to significant layoffs from past 2 years and continuing under the carpet. This is largely due to mounting debt from aggressive acquisitions made during the era of low interest rates, when cash flow was less constrained.
TU has failed to launch any significant, customer-facing products that address the post-COVID digital transformation needs. There is no major inflow of capital or innovative monetization strategy. Survival now depends on revamping organizational productivity — too many bloated teams are working on slow-paced, low-impact projects while continuing to draw paychecks without delivering measurable returns. The lack of return on investment from several large teams is alarming.
Meanwhile, the C-suite appears directionless merely shifting legacy applications from one platform to another without adding real business or customer value. There's no innovation, no clear vision, and no transformative leadership.
At this rate, it's inevitable that the current leadership will begin announcing their retirements starting 2026 effectively abandoning ship before the inevitable collapse by end of 2027. It will be challenging for new leadership to bring back morals and reorg the company back to its flying stars only time has to tell the shape of TU
