Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

How many layoffs have there been this summer?

Hey folks!
I got laid off in August with 21 other people, that I at least know of. Life Insurance guy just called to see if I want to continue the plan and he said I'm his 50th Target call today. What other areas is Target laying off from?

@20k Good to know. The few that I knew personally who shared details in confidence with me of being put on one were both over 40 (one over 50). And both were high performers from either working directly or indirectly with them. Not to be controversial here but the over 50 was convinced it was due to them being in the protected classes, and the PIP was just to cover their as--s just so that age discrimination couldn't be proved. Just do a Google search on over 50/PIP and see the results you get. It's despicable if PIPs are being used disingenuously; even if in many cases PIPs are genuine efforts to turn around bad performance.

@19r I no longer work there but in the 22 years that I DID work at HQ I knew a few people who were put on PIPs - eventually, they were either fired or quit because of the stress. It happens.

@1at very good point. I was always confused why low performers don't get the boot more often. The only time I knew someone get su-ked is because she watched TV in the office at her laptop and took frequent naps 🤣. Then you got me giving blood sweat and tears and I get let go whilst awaiting to present executive ready reports to SVPs like oookkkk??

@qs we've already given a significant workload over to business partners in Asia too. It's alarming to see so many open roles in India now!

@19r That you know of. Most people keep their PIPs a secret from their work peers due to embarrassment. Just saying.

@fv Thanks for the clarification. I don't know anybody in my 17 years there who got a PIP, so thats not a factor IMO.

Once owned brands business is mature, it will get offshored to India to reduce maintenance cost, much to the delight of India and their leadership here in the US.

@fd PIP is an Performance Improvement Plan OR as some who have experienced it view it: Paid Interview Period - use that time to interview elsewhere because very few people make it back from a PIP as it's being used not for "improvement" but to downsize in most cases.

Staying under the WARN act actually seems like a bad idea. Just pull off the band-aid and get it over with. It's better for moral than the slow bleed. And, the markets would then know about it and it would seem like something was being done which might be better for the stock price....

And how many were PIPs given to undeserving corporate TMs under the guise of cutting back staff? I have been keeping track of comments on here for a while and it seems like re-orging and eliminating people with quiet layoffs to avoid WARN notices or making waves in the press is more common than I thought. A peer of mine was put on one twice (he has since resigned); and as far as I know, he has a high work ethic and puts in a lot of time over in Owned Brands. Very disappointing to say the least that a company like TGT does this to loyal people once they are done with them.
