Had a 1:1 on Tuesday AM. It was labeled "Sync: Discussing Updates." Next thing I know, I'm read a script being laid off. I was told after this, my manager was laid off.

Well, technically, a deletion IS also an update.
@OP HR were briefed to make the meeting invitations as non threatening as possible, talk about a sneak attack.
Anyone who was on leave would have been phoned up anyway.
It stinks right now, but this is the day you found out a job isn't permanent, and that means it's time to go find something better.
