Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Ghosting for a lateral move

Need to get out of toxic leadership. Been applying internally and externally. More external than internal. One internal did get picked up 2 months after I applied. 5 rounds of interviews for a lateral move in the same domain I've been working in (just a different system). TRadio silence for 1+ month now. Pinged recruiter - didn't reply. Job was reposted recently.
HM's been looking for someone for 3+ months. Not like has someone in mind already and is doing the compliance thing with 3 minimum interviews. Is the expectation that God will descend from the heavens and apply for the role? And why ghost your own employee? Why blame external firms when your own firm's recruiters and HM's treat you this way?

Use correct English grammar and spelling.

It's hard to take you seriously. (Period needed here, else it's a run on sentence.) You sound like an ignoramus.

Another option is to simply ignore or Not read the post. LOL!

I hear and feel your pain OP. $hitibank thinks it can attract quality job candidates at the Dogfood Peanuts Salaries it's trying to sell. Don't go to McDonalds or a Food Truck and expect Jean-Georges Restaurant quality food and service ! LOL!

$hitibank keeps reposting the same jobs (e.g. Requisition Number 123456) over and over again, thinking and hoping they'll get Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos types to apply. NOT ! LOL!
The world knows $hitibank's hiring cycle is absurdedly long, minimum 3 months to 6 months starting from your first interview to the job offer ! Even HR has posted on this Site that they've lost job candidates because of this. Yeah, No $hit Genius !

In addition to assuming or believing they'll attract Quality job candidates, $hitibank keeps reposting the same jobs for the same Boondocks, remote locations where few if any quality job candidates reside (e.g. Getzville, New York, O'Fallon, Missouri, etc.).

When a Company needs to repost the same jobs for the same locations, there are obviously NO quality job candidates in those locations! This is NOT Rocket Science, but to $hitibank, it is! This does NOT happen in GS, JPMC, Morgan, etc., you know the Real Banks!. But then the Real Banks can afford to be flexible, pay the Salary levels for and accept job applicants from the Non-Hinterlands locations.

Citi HR will NOT even bend or be flexible and realize that to get quality job candidates, it needs to be flexible, post for and allow applicants from the metropolitan areas (e.g. New York City, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Tampa, etc.).

These are some of the many machinations of a financially unstable company......$hitibank.

I've moved a lot in my tenure at Citi. A few Lateral moves. In the past 2 years, despite having a lot of experience, high reviews and networking, not a single post has even garnered a response. Posting into a black hole. One role the hiring manager asked me to post, HR screened me out. They had to actually ask HR to add me back in the mix. HR said "sorry it was an accident". Moral of the story, HR has no idea wth they are doing. High turnover rate and no experience. Most lately are offshore contractors.

@bc This may or may not make you feel better, but myself and others have been in the same boat or situation as you've experienced.

I have Not interviewed at Macquarie for over 12 years because they have an absurd interview process, worse than U.S. companies. Macquarie also has a bizarre inferiority complex where they state in every interview that they're not easier to get into than Goldman, JPMC, and other USA banks or financial institutions. NO one said they were. The Lady doth protest too much, said Hamlet. Macquarie wants to make it appear as if they're just as competitive or in the same league as Goldman, JPMC etc..

Prior to 12 years ago, I interviewed at Macquarie for 3 different jobs. Each interview required at least 4 if not 5 rounds. One of the rounds included a 2.5 hour psychology and IQ test. Macquarie's stvpid excuse is that everyone, including the CEO all the way down must take the psychology/IQ test and go through 4 to 5 rounds, in-person interviews.

This is BullSH!T. At the C-Suite level interviews and JackA$S A$sinine Psych-IQ Tests are only a formality and for show because the Board of Directors generally pre-approve the hires. And even several levels below the C-Suite, the new hires are also pre-approved.

Unless you're newly out of university, desperately need a job or long-term unemployed, it's advisable to NOT apply to or interview at Macquarie. Don't waste your time and false hopes. Not to mention money wasted commuting to the interview site.

As the OP stated Interview hours do Not take into account the amount of preparation time the Svcker-Interviewee must waste and work on, in addition to commuting time.

Many European companies have similar interview policies and processes as Macquarie. Be Aware. I'm only sharing information.

@bq they can. Take it or leave it, and the market has not much to offer to leave it.

This is Sh!tibank. They're delusional and think they can get a Superstar Employee at Dogfood Salary prices.

The metaphor is Sh!itibank being so delusional and out of touch with reality that it thinks or believes it can buy a car at bicycle prices. ROTFLMFAO !

Don't go to McDonalds or a Food Truck, and then expect the food and service to be Jean-Georges Restaurant quality. ROTFLMFAO !

@ty

Just like the Bent Curved Red Stapler or D!CK above the word "Citi" in the Citi Logo !

ROTFLMFAO !

Very soon that Red Bent D!CK will be bent so far back it will break.

This is the sign that Citi is filing for Bankruptcy or ordered by the Regulators to execute RRP=Recovery & Resolution Plan, to get sold in whole or pieces! 😛😁

@OP

Many posters here have posted and commiserated about the Non-existent Internal Mobility BullSh!t that Sh!tibank keeps trying to sell.

The barriers to entry and standards are Lower for External Job Applicants at any Company-Employer. So you're better off Not wasting your time, effort and false hopes applying for Internal Jobs.

You'll get dozens, hundreds or even thousands of automated Rejection emails, something along the lines of:

Dear Job Applicant-Svcker:

We want to let you know that we won't be moving forward with your job application for the role of [ Insert Job Title & Requisition Number Here You Got Rejected For ].

But we're still very much interested in you and your internal development [ BullSh!t ], and we're very proud to have you on our team [ BullSh!t ].

We'd love for you to take a look at other job opportunities on our Career Mobility Fantasy Site to see if there's another position that might interest you.

Best regards,
Citi Global Talent Acquisition

@ba It's just deeply upsetting that they would make someone go through 5 rounds of interviews (2.5 hours total of interview plus prep for interview, research about their business model etc) and then go completely quiet. At least have the decency of responding back even one or two lines of a reason for not moving ahead so the candidate can at least learn what the shortcoming was. It's in the same company FFS. I suppose this is the norm now in an employer's market? Why make us go through quarterly ethics training when none of it will be respected at all?

Then again, think about the requirement of a post which can be vacant for 3-4 months and no one bother

@ax If they had filled the role, I could have understood that they found a better candidate, or had someone else in mind and I was their compliance target and so on. They reposted the role on Mobility. That's the part I don't get - you've been searching for a good 3-4 months and still haven't decided on a candidate for a C14 role. Not even C15. Just who do you think will apply to a C14 role? Elon Musk? That's the puzzle here

Keep applying! There are so many possible situations (job already taken, reqs being cancelled, etc.) Don't focus on individual positions no matter how perfect of a candidate you might seem. Attend events, join inclusion networks, try to actually meet people, but also just apply to every blessed job you have a modicum of interest in. The reality is, so many jobs change before you get in the seat, you cant even depend on the job description or manager to be accurate. I applied to over 40 roles when I was trying to get away from a toxic team. Some interviews I felt like I was used to meet some dei target (I'd have my first interview and the role would be filled the next day). When it's right, it's right. I got a new role last year and it is so much better and so far from my old team I forget this is the same company.

Man, just accept it. Internal candidates do not have the leverage they used to have 30y ago. No company cares about loyalty anymore. The social contract was broken years ago when unions were disbanded and private sector transitioned to the current everyone-for-themselves model.

For what it's worth, Citi actually is better than the average when it comes to internal / loyalty hiring.
