Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Please do your jobs

Quiet quitting drags everyone down. If you’re checked out, just leave instead of coasting and dumping work on the rest of us. The whole team pays the price when people stop pulling their weight, and it’s getting old fast.

@1b6 I absolutely LOVE this! - and you're right! People in the St. Louis region all know Centene well. Tons of folks just leave, or get laid off, to find other jobs. Centene has the worst name in STL and folks ask me: "...do i wanna work there?" NO you don't!

When you say: "....the whole team pays the price." it's absolute BS. The term team is outdated and everyone has to be in the game for themselves. You have to be into Centene only for yourself, take what you want, and get out or let them dump you. Many people in St. Louis, headquarters, have spoken about this for at least 10 years. Negotiate a great salary going in and immediately use the time to find another job. Only use Centene as a stepping stone to something better. I had a man on my team to did nothing for 7 months - absolutely nothing. He didn't speak in meetings, didn't add anything, and just let all the women on the team just go at it on zoom calls on a daily basis. They women basically just wanted to orchestrate everything - so he just let them. On the 8 month he said: "...I found another job." He used the whole time to work on his resume, build out his portfolio, and move on. It's what people do at Centene until you're laid off....I wanna go back just to do this.

Quiet quitting IS literally doing your job genius!

This organization incentivizes quiet quitting. I've observed several instances where individuals did absolutely nothing for over six months and were promoted.

Given this pattern, it's unlikely the behavior will diminish—especially when it's met with advancement rather than accountability.

@zv take into consideration unless you are the owner you are an employee as well and can be replaced. People have lives outside of work and the bare minimum may be all they can give, and they don't have to go to work broadcasting their personal business.

@19d Wow I bet you thought you were proving something with your obvious "vitriol". LMOA really thought you had something there, but don't you worry, you're just as much on that list of people the company doesn't give a sh-t about as the rest of us. It would seem that you're just salty because it's being called out for what it is, and it's all justified.

All this snark and vitriol coming from many that will be jobless within 6 weeks. Bravo. Fight the power. Your internet words are meaningful and stuff.

@148 you do realize you dont need to do any hard work to get promoted in this company right? You just need to kiss a-s, or just lucky enough to fit in one of the DEI criterias, preferably being a woman helps.

@14m Exactly. I don’t see issues with quiet quitting, I see issues with understaffing, overwork, and being unable to do anything well or in a timely manner as a result. The overwork and interdependency of teams impacts everyone’s ability to move the needle forward.

Im not sure you can even "quiet quit" at this point. Team members dropping like flies with layoffs and work shunted to those who remain, impossible metrics and deadlines, who has time to slack off!?!?!

@100: And that attitude is often the difference between someone who complains and gets RIF’d versus someone who gets things done and is promoted.

@zv What a hilarious response. There are so many people quietly quitting you all have no idea what’s actually going on, but good luck thinking you do “Leader”

This is great news. Does this mean that those who receive a bonus will have their contributions to the team reviewed as well? I assumed “meet expectations” is what everyone was expected. The comments here are confusing.

Leader here….if you are quiet quitting and doing the bare minimum - we already know and have plans for how to address it. We’re paying attention and comparing your output and contributions to your peers constantly.

How can Centene (or most companies these days) expect loyalty when they’ll layoff staff in a heartbeat but expect you to keep working hard to contribute to the “Enterprises” success. Beam me up Scotty LOL!!! I have no guilt about doing what my job entails but nothing more while collecting a check and funding my 401K.

OP, I think you're failing to recognize what quiet quitting actually is. Pulling your weight/NOT going above and beyond IS quiet quitting.

It's up to management to get the work done and in an environment where the more you do the more you are given, no thanks. If people are able to coast at work then it's on management to spread the work around.

You must be a bloomer. Believing hard-working will save you. I don't blame those who are checked out and collecting a pay check.

@ar We were told in May our jobs will be outsourced to vendors. The vendors have the doing our work while we continue to have to ask for work when available with no incentive to stay on the team and wonder why people are looking for new jobs and positions. Who wants to stay on a team that has everyone scared and nervous of if and when we will be let go.

@aq YES perfectly said! 1000% agree with this! All while dangling a might be a job for you at the end of all this carrot if you keep over performing and work really hard we might have something for you! No thanks!

What is your definition of "coasting" and "dumping work" ? Because, quite frankly, outsourcing our work to "vendors" while laying off people stateside, expecting us to fix their fu-kups while picking up the workload from those laid off, while still expected to complete our normal work, is dumping work and an insult. Guess what? IT'S GETTING OLD FAST. While normally I would side with you, I just can't because most of this company has checked out - including upper management. The company is reaping what it sowed.
