Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

None of this is surprising

These layoffs are consistent with Oracle's business model. That is to say:

  1. Acquire technology/companies
  2. Titrate down all investment in that product's innovation, engineering/dev, support
  3. Milk the support stream (possible since the customers are now "over the Oracle barrel")
  4. Discard the dessicated corpse.
  5. Rinse, repeat

Given this model there is no such thing as too many reductions.

What you write is not surprising. The surprising part is how it is done.

There is no "we will discontinue product X" or other explanation given. Even if not explicitly stated, there are so many fired already that this should be visible by now. So far I haven't seen a pattern showing what Oracle is up to other than short term save money, ignoring the possibility to be sued by customers for not delivering what the contract says.

The immediate manager of teams that has been cut 10%, 20% or even 50% has not impacted or even been consulted who to let go. That can't be normal. In a normal situation you try to save money without affecting the activity and obligations to customers too much. It is not "slimming down" if it feels random.
