Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Facing this week

Last week many were told they could work from home.

Now I'm facing going back in to the office knowing several teammates are gone and I've been demoted.

My new team knows I was demoted. None of them were even impacted, so it feels like they cannot relate. I don't want a pity party, but it's very embarrassing for me.

How are you all coping with this?

Don't let their stupid decision have any affect on your self-value. You were a highly-competent professional before and nothing has changed. Absolutely do not let anyone else determine your value, whether good, bad or indifferent. Once you are engrained with the mindset that your worth does not come from external sources, you will be amazed by how freeing it is. Your quality of life (both personally and professionally) will improve dramatically. No one has any control over your value except you. Hold your head high.

@a6 This is my approach too. You want me to work a job two pay grades down? Fine. But don't expect a minute of anything above what is on my measures for meeting expectations for this new position, and don't be surprised when I'm out of here as soon as I can secure another position outside of EJ.

Nobody should feel shame except those who made the decisions and thus should be the ones held accountable for making these "difficult choices." I've never received anything other than glowing reviews with people often thanking me for going above and beyond during my years at the firm, and yet I was laid off. I'm not letting this affect how I view myself.

Just how I view the firm and its leadership.

I can relate. I feel shame as well.

I’m not yet coping productively, but I just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. I’m in the same boat. It is ELT who should feel embarrassed, not you or me.

I’m walking in with my head held high. I was demoted to a lower pay grade too. Using RBM meeting expectations for my role will be adjusted to my new pay grade. The firm pays for performance. If they’re not willing to pay, then they’re not getting higher quality work out of me for free. I’ll choose when I want to exceed them or be outstanding. I’ll continue to look internally and externally. I’ll move on when it’s right for me.
