There is no such thing as a work life balance at Macy’s. Your STM will scold you and you will be retaliated against.

@13w “required”? Absolutely not. You are not required to do anything (emails, texts, calls, etc) once you are done for the day. Required means you require yourself to allow this to happen to you. Break the cycle immediately if you haven’t already done so. Work life balance.

NGF stores are not replacing managers. They’ve also eliminated the VM position in those stores.

@18a are you a R125 store? I heard they were only replacing managers in R125 stores.

My store just filled an open SMM position this week. Now we have a backstage captain position that’s open. We keep filling open spots with people already here, except for sales positions which we have been very very slowly filling. Most days we have barely enough sales staff to have one person per department. Back of house we are down three merchandisers and two receivers. Good luck to us as we get two trucks a week.

@120 If you look at the policy in askHR, it specifically states they It’s Your Time is not them “giving days back” worked during the holiday season. I have worked for other clothing retailers who don’t mandate 6 day work weeks during holiday seasons because they understand that it is better to have you 5 days at 100% than 6 days at 40%. Working longer shifts plus an extra day during the busiest time with less bodies takes a toll. We are already taking on 3 jobs per person due to staffing cuts every year. We used to be able to breath from Feb-August but we can no longer do that because everyday feels like the busy holiday season when you are severely understaffed. And don’t get me started about whether the company appreciates the employees. They only “appreciate” the ones who have worked 25 or 35 years by allowing them to get an extra 10% during their birthday month. What about the colleagues who have bee her 10, 20, 30, and 40 year. Are they not worthy? Plus they have to spend money (on a forced credit card) in this economy to feel the 10% appreciation for 30/31 days. And before you ask, yes, I am looking to leave. The job market is crazy but as soon as I get an offer I’m jumping off this sinking ship.

Don’t forget you can’t ’clock out’ as salaried. You’re basically on call 24/7 and required to check your emails and take phone calls & texts from your leadership and stores team.

@116 Not all store managers enforce the 6 day work weeks and 10-12 hour days. These extra days are given back as your it's my time week off. As far as 6 day work weeks there are only 3. Plus the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas we work 5 days. The 3 6-day work weeks plus the 2 holiday weeks give us the 5 IYT days off. What salaried managers like to forget is that we are not limited to 40 hour work weeks.
You all play like it's torture and the company doesn't care about it's people. And they really don't seem to I get it. But it's RETAIL. And as we all know from Black Friday til Christmas is when the company hopefully comes out of the red and starts to make a profit. They pay us a decent wage ALL year so don't complain about working a few extra days (that they pay us back for) during the time when they need us the most. If you don't like it retail is not for you. It's unfortunate this is how it is that we sacrifice our family time. But this is the profession we chose.

We shouldn’t have 6 day workweeks at all. With less managers, it’s brutal! When you finally off on Christmas Day, you are too burnt out from working 11 days straight to enjoy it. Then you return the day after while store managers and the district team take off until after new years. Macy’s no longer cares about the us.

You have to work 6 day weeks, often 10-12 hr days for 6 weeks between Thanksgiving and New Years which is brutal. The best time is to quit right before Black Friday. But hey, at least there will be coverage right?

We recently lost a manager position in my location and I have absorbed their role into mine the company is definitely trying to slim down on manager roles but wants to keep their top talent around, it makes a lot of sense because each manager costs 60k or more as manager level roles range from around 60k-90kish

One manager left in the beginning of August, and explained there was a freeze. Today, I learned another manager will be covering a department that is several floors away. I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to remove some of the executives.

So they just want to ki-l their existing managers going into the busiest time.
