After reading your post, my first thought was “Oh no, their boss may have Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)”. Look for articles and academic papers published by medical clinicians and folks from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis division, to help you assess. If your boss does have NPD, YOU RUN. This advice was given to me years ago by a 6’4”, highly trained and lethal, counter-terrorism specialist. NPD aligns closely with anti-social (sociopath) behavioral traits (particularly introverted narcissists). Look it up. I am being deadly serious - think Bryan Kohberger minus the KA-BAR kn--e. Still highly destructive and insane. RUN.
Even if your boss is not NPD, your very question about ‘st-----g their ego’ is highly concerning. This is how I handled a situation similar to yours: put your head down, shut your mouth, and do your work. Smile and nod, smile and nod, smile and nod. As my extraordinary attorney shared with me “YOU are going to put on an academy award winning performance until you land in a new role”. You need your seat until you can get out so, again, shut your mouth, smile and nod, do whatever they tell you to do with that big smile on your face, do not question them and DO NOT ‘outshine them’! And please - don’t share this with any of your colleagues. Shut it down right now, and quietly apply for roles outside of Wells.
Be smart, be focused, and shut your mouth.
You can do this - it’s hard but in the end, your physical and mental health will thank you.
Pretend you are in Trump's cabinet: "Dear leader: Have you been working out?"

Congratulations on your new job! That's so awesome!
@k4 She made the decision, blessed by HR, compliance, legal etc. It was done on Teams, with over100 of us, by her boss reading a script while she was holding a call with the survivors. She kept the know nothing brown noser over me. There was one layoff that I didn’t get to decide who, all the others I had to “score”. The last round a few weeks ago, she made the calls herself. It seems to depend on how many….
I’m grateful! I have a new job, pulled a double salary for almost a year. No more toxic workplace, no more threat of layoffs every Tuesday, no more last minute reactionary fire drills cleaning up bad decisions made by the c suite occupants. And best of all, on raise #3 in less than a year with the last one THE largest raise I’ve ever had without a promo or job change AND my new manager tells me daily how thankful she is that I am there. It’s amazing how your health drastically improves when you are treated with dignity.
@jz
Hey, question so your direct boss displaced you? Just very curious, we were told our boss will not be laying us off. We were told someone two or three levels above our boss would be displacing us? Someone in the organization we don't even know. Maybe that's the case? Or with bosses being displaced, maybe our boss won't be there to do the displacements??!!
Don’t bother, it won’t buy you that much time and the job search is changing daily due to AI among other factors.
BTW, my former THE B#&$tch that laid me off. Happy Labor Day. Best of luck Tuesday!

Don't do it. Find your spine. That's the only tip you need.
You don’t need to be fake. Just listen to people if you want them to feel valued.. listen to them carefully
