there has been a whole spans and layers push where they want managers having 7 or more directs. while there are still plenty of managers with a few to no directs, that seems to be an exception these days. I know quite a few legs where managers with a couple directs moved under that managers manager then the old mgr either was let go or moved to an equivalent level IC role.
Indian managers and there cowardly Indian subordinates that will do whatever they are told without standing up for themselves.
Muslim ones are even worse.
@c7 Where? Over the last 5 years I only saw like 2-3 extra layers of managers added.

WF has been flattening orgs for the last few years, just like everyone else, google included.
