Walgreens - Michael Motz

Hey Staples folks. Coming from a concerned Walgreens employee that just learned your ex CEO Michael Motz is now CEO of Walgreens. What do we have to look forward to? Is he good, bad? Pros? Cons? Is it all really doom n gloom from here on out? Don’t care for the fear mongering but curious what we potentially have in our future?

Thanks!

From what I read, you're getting a double dip from Staples. I read that John Lederer is supposed to be the Chairman for Walgreens too. He couldn't do anything at Staples, and he won't do anything at Walgreens. He is a complete 'Tool

At first Mike seemed to be okay. He had a vision and it was refreshing. But his vision was never to make money. It was always free services that overwhelmed the stores and then we couldn’t take care of paying customers, and ironically the non paying Amazon returns customer had a louder voice and was a higher priority.

So, I’d run! I was at staples for 20+ years. The visions that he shared with us, never came true. He was a terrible leader, that stressed the field managers which then lead to them micromanaging everything (which was fine until we lost labor)
So find a new job, trust me! I read these posts when it happened at Staples, I didn’t believe it, now I wish I would have ran back then.

Like at Staples, first thing Sycamore will do is sell any property Walgreens owns to recoup some of what they paid for Walgreens. Like Staples, Sycamore will close the stores as their lease comes up.

Mike Motz was merely a figure head to oversee the wind down of Staples Retail. He is still on Staples payroll as an Executive Advisor along with being Walgreens CEO. Sycamore must really like him.

Mike Motz was solid. He didn't sugarcoat things when things weren't going well. Yes, the company didn't show a ton of improvement under him, but it had more to do with the hand that he was dealt in my opinion. I think Walgreens has a better chance to rebound than Staples does.

Expect stores to close and the quality of your staff and culture to take a dip.
