Sure, it has some practical value. It can speed things up and automate basic tasks, but it still needs constant babysitting. It’s nowhere near what it’s been hyped up to be, and it’s definitely not the real driver behind the layoffs. From what I’ve seen in recent media reports, it’s just turned into a convenient excuse for more cuts and offshoring.

AI being jammed down our throats is so nauseating. Its ALLLL they talk about in every meeting. AI this, use AI for that... good lord
@kd at least the calculator produced objective and correct output. AI is just outsourcing your own stupidity to a stochastic guessing machine. the fact that our CEO overlords have tied the economy to this boondoggle is proof that we need a new order
What they're saying is "we didn't pay to keep our AI talent, and now that we've sht the bed in managing UHG the last 2 years we don't have any money, so we can't pay for AI talent to get new AI talent, so our only hope is to pray that India develops AI talent we can afford with what money we have left and save our ss*s."
AI is not intelligent nor is it capable of independent analysis or critical thinking. It uses algorithms, and needs to be trained and programmed by humans. So you’re 10000% correct.
I guess we have move on from the last innovation the cloud the cloud. Now uh oh we put all our eggs in one basket and holy cow batman our stupid processes cost a boatload of cash since we have an actual meter running now and a giant invoice to pay. Not to mention vendor lock in. Lets make more useless dashboards for more layers of VP and junior CEO types. Powers that be decide your business is no longer suitable poof in a flash its all gone. Nobody thought UNH stock would drop like a stone after just 1 earnings report either. AI just means another Indian. So all the proprietary info is up in the cloud being processed with Azure or AWS tools and not being mined by Microsoft and Amazon sure ... In the end AI just another diversion from the fact our "leaders" are clueless as to a roadmap for the future. Everyone else doing it so we better hop on the bandwagon while lining out pockets before pulling the rip cord on the golden parachute
Those use AI to think will be better workers. Those who don't will be pioneers and leaders
@kd it stifling actual innovation and out of the box thinking. If so were to be there 120 years ago we would be having better designed steam boats not aeroplane, as AI draws from current existing knowledge. AI IMHO is just a tool to synthesize information not thinking something new
Agreed. AI is becoming an increasingly used marketing buzzword. I can't help but think that this 'AI' cr-p is becoming the next wave of, what I call, "the calculator effect" on humanity. Back in the 70's, when handheld calculators became widely available to the masses, it didn't take long before people couldn't do simple math anymore. Calculators did it for us. AI (in all it's forms) will have a similar effect. I don't have to know anything as long as I have a smart phone and ChatGPT. I wish I could get my money back on my college degrees..........
@fm I heard last year that it's about $12M. And someone H recently promoted in it
It's not even that complicated. Consider why we only hire Wipro now, and why we seem to always get their worst 'talent'? Someone (Candyman) is getting kickbacks.
AI is the latest flavor of hammer… sandeep is Jim Jones… all they see are nails. We are getting rid of our best onshore and offshoring to make IT India leaders Make India Great Again. Travesty is good white collar jobs are sent offshore. How is this making America great. In fact we’re all playing to rid ourselves of American jobs.
All AI starter jobs are in India. Sc--w American youngsters. No opportunity will be given to them. This got to change.
Well all those US employees who don’t say anything, that just bobble head to any stupid thing some greedy VP says, well sooner or later they reap what they sow.
Someone told me they saw 84 Tech jobs on the Optum site and 378 on Optum India site. Does that seem right? Maybe they need a 5:1 ration to be productive.
AI is only as smart as its inputs. From what I've witnessed of the offshore IT, that's pretty d-mb.
yes a company can easily dress up its failures as successes by just saying, actually we're pivoting to AI, we aren't failing we're actually just on the cusp of 10x'ing our output using scifi technology, we are actually mega smart and not mba mo--ns, because we know how to keep saying these two letters next to each other
Meanwhile they're creating huge contracts with Indian staffing firms, getting backroom kickbacks for doing so, importing h1bs, etc etc
