Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Work environment has gone downhill fast

Has anyone else noticed how toxic things have become lately? Management, culture, and morale all feel worse than ever. It’s hard to understand what went wrong, but the stress and frustration are impossible to ignore. I wish someone would explain how it got this bad.

It doesn't get any better than this folks - an HR soldier drops in to check on front line sentiment (you know - people actually doing work rather than being a remote parasite) drops in to deliver an incredibly obvious and also incredibly immature and unprofessional response to the forum (below) and magically at the same time a new post regarding her boss disappears.

Hi there!

I feel so sorry for so many of these people commenting here… I’m sorry that you don’t have good leadership and I’m sorry that you don’t get to be a part of a good team. Personally I have a great leader and a great team and I love what I do every day.. if I were in such a negative position as stated here by some I would leave life is too short. Find something you love in a place where you thrive…. It would be better for you and it would be better for Seagate not to have the negativity.

I'm going back to my corner to quiet quit for sure. I hope it goes no more than 5 years before the inevitable trip and face plant so I can retire in style.

I understand the cuts - HDD is a commodity - but the 50% profitability goal seems a bit too greedy and they're cutting a lot of experience and brain power - because yeah - those guys/gals also happen to look the most expensive on a spreadsheet - go figure. If you're on other side of the continent or ocean and/or all you know came from the military and you have no clue what they actually keep glued together for the org - they're easy targets.

What I see - it's just a matter of time - super complex things are going to break - as they do - and it's going to take an army of young chumps starting from zero a LONG time to fix them. Hope they don't loose too much market share in the process as I still have a pile of this stock and I'm too greedy myself to ditch it amidst this bubble.

Processes started getting thrown out years ago when the edict came down that it was all about the shareholder. When dividends kept outpacing wages, people get demoralized quickly. The crew running the company today don't care. Here is your bonus, go back to your corner and be quiet.

Ive noticed the trend. I think that’s what happens when all established process is thrown away and you are left with people flailing around with no guide posts to base decisions and no business system enforced to prevent chaos. It’s now about who can project influence the most and you are experiencing the ebb and flow chaos from that. The top has prioritized short term decisions to boost stock metrics and system check valve gates were seen as being in the way.
