I think the message was that an individual needs to take some responsibility for own future. Multi year single employer careers are a thing of the past for most.
Build up an emergency fund and have your finances in order so that being given the "opportunity to work elsewhere" isn't an instant catastrophe.
More sage advice OP missed: Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Buy low, sell high. Tempus Fugit. A penny saved is a penny earned.
