Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle or OCI brand value / currency..

Hey,
After spending 24+ yrs at Oracle (recent 6~ yrs at OCI), is there any brand value for it? I do not find many recruiters reaching out on LinkedIn. Attempt to submit resume applying to jobs result in no response.

How does one go about improving response rate, get an attempt at interviews? Pl suggest.

@OP Use ChatGPT very helpful. Keep a professional attitude, dress for the part. during the interview concentrate on the job description and what skills you bring to the table. Remember we are being paid for our services not the other way around. Ageism it depends on your attitude. If you come across upbeat, love yourself, take care of your hygiene and appearance a lot of magic happen during the interview. Ask yourself are you willing to put up with long commute? Are you willing to work five (5) days a week? Once you narrow your personal parameter it will make it easier to narrow what is doable for you. Employers and agencies were offering me a LOT of cash per HOUR some with no benefits and for me a LOT of cash will not make me happy. Commute was HORRENDOUS and I pictured myself driving back and forth for FIVE days a week can you see yourself doing it? ==>Mentally draining

"Why did you stay there so long?".

That's a myth. Never ever heard this question asked me after my 7 and 11 year stints.

Not at all. I was asked this question within the first few minutes of an interview for an IC position. The person asking was the hiring manager's boss (director). I remember thinking at the time that it was actually a very probing question, and one I would consider asking someone else today.

"is there any brand value for it?"

Short answer is "no".

Longer answer is that in the current market your first question in an interview will likely be a very skeptical
"Why did you stay there so long?".
You are going to need an answer to that question which overcomes some very big doubts in the interviewer's mind.

After all, your competition is likely to be younger, hungrier and more broadly experienced than someone just laid off from a tech company that has had no market or tech leadership for a very long time.

Without any contexts and/or backgrounds on what you have done in Oracle for the last 24+ years, you are not helping yourself here - e.g. there are big differences if you are doing AI vs. patching bare metals for the last 6 years in OCI.

@OP Not sure if O provided Lee Hecht Services. Some do not find it helpful for endless reasons. If there is a displacement service paid by companies use them you get something out of it and do not lose anything. Enroll in as many sessions as you can until the service expired or share it with family members. I took endless virtual classes by different instructors and each provided their POINT of view. Wife wanted to learn how to update LinkedIn and I signed up for her under my account and she took it including introduction to ChatGPT among other things. She found it very helpful. There virtual displacement services free all you need is sign up and attend.
