Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

KTD Layoffs

I recently found out they'll be doing more layoffs at KTD and probably GO soon. I know for sure CIS and Product will get hit hard. I hope you get your severance!

@pp if you were laid off you would be aware that severance hasn’t been discussed

Reddit says 1 month salary for every year. Now I wish I was getting laid off. They have avoided severance payouts the last 2-3 re-orgs. If true, I haven't seen anything this generous since VRO

@pb Our team is all local and onsite 4+ days a week, except for one person. All I mentioned are technical, not management. The one let go that I mentioned is local in Blue Ash.

@pd companies avoid penalties by offering severance packages or back pay.

KTD blue ash. In my group, its still all hush hush. My engineering team is safe, both the local and remote resources. Seeing the most impact to local leadership roles.

Was on Jim n Ashely call, remote got laid off so vague and cold - pre-recorded. Tryin to process if any reason or pattern except remote.

@pd seems that since it was 1000 nationwide and not specific states they weren't required / didn't trigger the thresholds for WARN

Given that it was 1000 employees, is Kroger violating the WARN act? Might be a lawsuit here

not all remote associates were let go.

@pa was one remote and another not? Seems remote associates were laid off.

@p9 Seems to some kind of algorithm???....a coworker of mine was affected. Higher paid, high performers and under 50? Only difference between coworker and I....they are under 50 and I am over. Same pay grades, similar job roles, similar performance.

I can think of 2 on the same team that together would have netted more savings and their work would have been easier to absorb than the one let go. In fact, the one being let go does work that none of the rest of the team can currently perform, including me.

@p3 my wife was not notified ahead of time and was given notice of termination on the scripted video call. 20+ year employee, always glowing reviews, personally found and cleared over $3M in bad debt over the past few years. They eliminated the higher paid employees so the lower paid ones can pick up the slack.

Hard to plan life when arbitrary layoffs happen every 3 months. I'm sure the offshore replacements will perform great with the help of AI /s.

Cincinnati-based grocery giant Kroger Co. on Aug. 26 announced a reorganization that will see the elimination of 1,000 corporate positions, which its interim CEO said would lead to reinvestment in its stores.

@nw It is so cowardly how Kroger holds an ambiguous threat of (no) severance over your head because they don't trust you. Same thing they did during "transformation". An alternative plan would be to treat soon-to-be-former employees as humans. Or just be transparent and upfront about what severance will be. But have any of the leadership clowns ever been transparent and trusting?
"vague information about severance (month pay/years of employment, possible bonus eligibility based on standing), but would be discussee 1-on-1 during exit interview, TBD"

@nt the "good" script said the people impacted had already been notified. If you were being laid off, you would know already.

@nq yeah, bogus. Drop in the bucket to provide that benefit... Can't say I'll reliably have a phone next time I'm on call. Oh well they get what they pay for right ? The benefits at this company just keep getting taken away

@ns nah. The AI tooling is a total joke. Can't replace anyone... Plus Kroger won't pay for the good tiers so it's extremely slow and d-mb

@nz when I changed teams a few years ago it took five Indians and 4 years for them to even grasp a basic understanding of the applications. Two of them had no idea how computers work. I'm not even kidding

Sounds just like when 84.51 laid off 183 people in March but they went the extra step and hired 152 offshore contractors from TechM from India and Mexico to replace them.

@nt vague information about severance (month pay/years of employment, possible bonus eligibility based on standing), but would be discussee 1-on-1 during exit interview, TBD. Not allowed back at the office, and they would box up and mail our personal items to our address on file.

@nt I'm assuming if you weren't immediately laid off, you're safe from this round at least.

Those being let go have already been notified as far as I'm aware.

KTD AX (blue ash) here

Had the 12:30 call with Jim C. Hidden invite list, chat off, no Q&A, just a scripted one-way statement. We were weren't outright told that we were being laid off, but we weren't told that we were safe either. No information will be given as to who and how many. Impacted associates will find out via 1:1 this week. Based on the other responses here, and the rumors circulating, I take it that I got the "good" script. But who knows, I guess I'll have to see if a 1:1 shows up on my calendar to be sure.

Anybody have details on who, how many, severance packages, etc?

Seems like Kroger is going very heavy on internal AI tools and AI curated/generated experiences.

I won't be surprised if more layoffs are coming in a year or two if those bear fruit. Buckle up, survivors.

@nn not to mention all year we've all been focused on saving money. My team alone has saved hundreds of millions of dollars this year reworking license agreements. None of it matters, they don't care about us

I've been at KTD for 15 years. I've now survived five different layoff attempts. Most of them started when Dave Dillon retired. It's so bogus that they lay people off when the company is doing exceptionally well. At least this time it sounds like folks are getting severance unlike transformation. I am scared for remote workers
