Thread regarding TATA Consultancy Services layoffs

Toxic work culture at TCS

Summary below and I encourage people to think carefully before applying:

  • punitive approach: managers overreact to minor mistakes, pushing them harshly. Fear runs rampant.
  • hostility: bullying, gossip, cliques are widespread and allowed. Leaders sweep serious issues under the rug.
  • favoritism: certain employees receives special treatment.
  • unfair expectations: you're over capacity, with unreasonable workload and no resources. Deadlines are always urgent.
  • Lack of recognition: leaders routinely steal credit for others accomplishments.
  • Limited growth: again favoritism plays into it, if you are not in the club no promotion for you. You will not have career development.
So glad I got out of this hole. At some point, you need to respect "yourself" as a human being. This company is not a place for it.

Most of Tier -1 Indian It services firm have toxic work culture. Only 2 in 20 get their contirbutions acknowledged and get reassonable hikes and promotion. Rest of 8 work for the better ment of these 2.
Dont expect great work culture as the US billing rates dont allow for these niceties

Plus brutal RTO:

Tata Consultancy Services has mandated that all US employees must immediately return to the office five days per week. The directive, issued July 23, 2025 via HR email, is framed as part of a global plan to “enrich the workplace experience.” The rule applies to office-based staff, while employees stationed at client sites will follow client-specific policies.

TCS had more than 45,000 employees in the US in 2023, many deployed directly at client companies. Exceptions to the mandate will only be allowed for those with prior work-from-home approvals.

The timing of the mandate has fueled speculation about job cuts. Internal rumors suggested up to 30 percent of US roles could be at risk, though TCS denied this, stating it has “not announced any layoffs in the US.” However, Reuters reported on July 28 that Tata plans to lay off 12,000 employees by 2026, intensifying scrutiny.

This move comes against the backdrop of broader criticism of TCS’s global employment practices, including its controversial “Bench Policy” in India. The RTO policy aligns TCS’s US operations with other regions where the company has already resumed full in-office work weeks.
