Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Pay people to sell stuff

To save money we have massively increased the sales targets of everyone. So high that coming to the end of the year we could pull in more but no one wants to. The targets are so large that a few million more here and there doesn't matter and only means an even bigger number next half.

So why not forget targets. Bonus people decently to close business before the end of the year, squeeze the last out of the year for EOFY.

Sounds bizarre, but trying to motivate people to close and no one is motivated because targets. Has to be a better way

Most of high end Enterprise EMC Sales Reps are long gone. They wouldn’t tolerate being paid like Best Buy PC Salesman!

wow...sales must be special. Pat on the back, dinner for two. What about the rest of the company that works hard and never gets a 'dinner for two'. You sales people are sickening sometimes.

I agree. Someone in the business is not getting the psychology of this at all. This is not a whinge about targeting this is about getting teams motivated in a matrix model.

I can close right now another few million (and I want to even though it wont get me paid), but all around me the contributors I need to do that have completely given up and are not bothering as the number is so crazy high that it doesn't matter.

We get it that we cant change targets, the targets are set . So throw some bones out there to get people to do the mainstream work and make that happen. Doesnt have to be much, even a pat on the back or a dinner for 2 would go a long way.

My quota went up almost 250%. I am usually a Dell defender but it they screwed quotas up this quarter. You are correct that it has completely taken motivation away from reps to sell this quarter.

This hits the nail on the head perfectly. After historic numbers for years and the apparent shock that demand is NORMALIZING.
