IBM’s CEO thinks AI can do his job

Flashback... apologies if you already saw it and for posting something a bit old(ish), but I just remembered this one...

IBM’s CEO thinks AI can do his job. Well, some of it.

“There are elements of repetitive, white-collar work in my job that AI could do,” Arvind Krishna told Fortune at the #CEOinitiative conference this week.

“But decision-making, creativity, collaboration with people, empathy—those are not things AI can do,” he said.

Krishna maintained that AI will create far more jobs that it will eliminate. “10-20% of job displacement may occur, but probably 30% new jobs will be created,” he said. AI is a “wonderful technology,” Krishna concludes.

I wouldn't count on it. I had an interview this week by AI and it asked probing questions that I would have expected a human interviewer to ask. And it analyzed answers in real time to ask more questions. This is no longer the realm of science fiction and the future. It's happening today. If AI replaces a CEO's job, the CEO has the the most to lose. After all most CEOs are nothing but figureheads dictating their grand vision and policy to keep the company on track with it's mission. I would expect AI to make better and smarter decisions than a human as time goes on. It's a sad fact, but most of the corrupt CEOs today need to be history. And most employees will be history too as AI takes over. Start with Alvind@IBM.

Current stock market valuations depend on a fictional idea of what AI can do. A flood of articles over last couple of weeks show that people are realizing it's fiction or at least many years away. CEOs are panicking and saying nonsense like the above to desperately try and maintain valuations. Not going to end well. Or at least won't end well for CEOs and investors, will probably be good for all the laid off tech workers who will get hired back once companies finally acknowledge that, no, AI couldn't replace them.

“…decision-making, creativity, collaboration with people, empathy—those are not things AI can do” so all the things I did in my role that I got laid-off from earlier this year. Riiiiiiight…! Good to know. Thanks.
