Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Lost all respect for leadership

Watching long-time, dedicated employees get cut without a second thought really broke my respect for this company. It feels like loyalty and experience mean nothing to management anymore.

lots of talk about H1bs, cheap labor etc etc..wake up folks...ever been to a Master program class in Computer Science in any top institute here in US, it is >90% full of Asian Chinese & Indian kids..so work on ground realities..cutting grants for college kids not going to work..it takes $15k in India for a kid to complete engineering vs $140k here...how are US kids going to afford college? Just bi--hing here or doing a boot camp or self study & dreaming of doing well in software not going to fly....Fix the problem long term..

People who have been here 30+ years are getting laid off? Oracle stock was 0.50 in 1993 how did they not retire 10 years ago?

My (ex-)wife was pretty close to that as well. At least with the O, I am getting paid instead of paying out!

Loyalty is never rewarded anymore. Never be loyal to the company. It works both ways.
I wish more people knew this!

Beside ICE team $50K signing bonus, if you are American and lost your job, you could also consider a career in law enforcement, such as joining the California National Guard Military Police, the Sheriff's Department, .... These positions often offer High Salaries, Big Fat Pensions, and Strong Job Security. It's definitely worth looking into!

The whole point of globalism was make corporations richer and expand their growth and power. Nothing else. The consequence for plebs like us - to bring us all to the level of global average with no leverage over corporate overlords, because they can always create more willing slaves by combing some densely populated region.

Sir, if you knew the id10ts I have to deal with on a weekly basis from overseas, you would come to understand there is little "specialization". It is all about low cost.

The H1B scam is something entirely different and will face headwinds and I expect huge reductions in the US going forward.

What companies are doing is pushing off-shore to reduce cost. Leaving citizens and H1B programs to fight over the leftovers. H1Bs will lose that fight.

The whole point of globalism was to eliminate any value/leverage an employee has based on location.
