In short,
if you fall in below categories , get ready and pack your items

  • Non-productive / legacy systems, components / internal tools
  • Traditional sales/marketing
  • You get stock based contributions in these teams/org
  • Duplicate teams in cloud available
  • High cost zones: Bay area, Seattle

One thing folks are still missing is just how much debt Oracle’s carrying (~$93 B). That kind of pressure means cost-cutting isn’t going away anytime soon. While cloud and AI are clearly the future, Oracle’s also focused on keeping shareholders happy, which means stock buybacks and dividends will continue—and those actually cost the company more than severance packages. So don’t be surprised if more roles are cut to keep those investor returns flowing. Expect continuous cuts every Qtr or Half-yearly based on performance and contributions. Its going to be high-pressure environment. Survivors of layoff will be in hot seat soon.

Besides the teams already mentioned, employees in high-cost areas like the Bay Area or Seattle may be more at risk compared to folks in lower-cost hubs like Austin or Bangalore.

High-cost regions and low-growth market field sales teams are prime targets as Oracle moves to a more centralized, digital-first sales model focused on cloud subscription services. Note that Sales teams get more Stock benefits.

"Which teams\products in CX Sales are impacted ?"

CX leftovers are now under HCM. Will CX folks get penalized more relative to HCM folks ? CX may have done the same to other products that were merged in the past.

I don't know anything about FA or release team VP exits. But here is clear Oracle's strategy and futuristic directions from its last earnings announcements which many of us failed to notice.

Oracle will be shifting from traditional on-premise software and perpetual licenses to cloud-based subscription services. This change has reduced the need for roles tied to legacy product support, installation, and maintenance. Its clear that FA and FMW on-premise will be affected. Including some teams in DB including on-prem components(Dev,QA) & NFR's (Build, Perf, Stress, Sustaining). More future is on Cloud based offerings.

AI and automation are now central to Oracle’s product strategy. As a result, many repetitive and manual roles in development, support, and operations will being phased out. If similar team is already available in OCI then your team is a target.

The company spent over $25 billion on capital projects and paid $3.4 billion in interest in 2025. To manage financial pressure and maintain profitability and Stock-based compensation reached $4.7 billion in 2025. Reducing headcount helps lower this expense and align rewards with strategic roles. Those who have high Stock compensation will face hurdles. So VP's and Directors might get affected more if they have high Stocks.

I can give more inputs if required specially on layoff's in India and other zones.

@r0 FAaaS already exists. So as per your guess, they may get deep into OCI native, more spectra like thing. One of fusion release team VP exited from company couple of months back, does it add up to anything?

Fusion Release , Database and OHAI build teams will be decimated. Performance, Stress, Security and few more NFRs will be closed. With FMW downsized, Fusion Apps might shift towards OCI based microservice deployments and leverage OCI tools for Build, Performance, Security. Similar to OCI-OnPrem pair, the new org will be OCI & AI with Fusion in transition towards OCI. More internal tools/projects in Fusion, DB and OHAI will be closed. Still doubting on Oracle APEX with JET teams are closed.

DevOps is more of a bottleneck and keeping us in stone age. It is slow, outdated, and just does not vibe with how things work now. Folks who have not touched code ever or kept up with all the tech framework shifts really are not bringing much to the table—just piling on bureaucratic processes and slowing everything down to justify existence and be seen.

Most of middleware developer teams were laid off. Think VB, ADF, Weblogic etc..

It is no brainer for non productive and redundant CX org roles.

I heard the first round was predominantly OCI. I too have heard team chatter that September 2nd is the day for Fusionapps. -HCM/Fusion engineer

Redundancy in HCM and CX ? Program Mgmt, PSR, Fleet suport, Devops etc......

HCM always had much higher standards in these areas.

is this rumor based on this board or on actual rumor within Oracle itself?
Rob's org was recently folder under Chris - so it's several hundred jobs on the chopping block not touched yet, and mid September is RSU release time, so it is probably true about early September

@aq The WARN act filed for October 10th is 60 days (what WARN requires) after employees were notified. I assume this is not a coincidence, and it’s just from the previous layoff not new layoffs.

But idk im just a regular IC making assumptions don’t take my advice for gospel.

In a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice, the "layoff start date" or "layoff date" refers to the specific date when an employee's employment will end due to a layoff. The notice date is when the employees were made aware of the developments. The layoff date is essentially the employee's last date of employment. I am not sure what folks are referring to when they say "a big one" is coming in October.

@aq I am confused by the WARN notice thing, in case you can clarify. There was another thread below that asked about this, because Aug 13 and 14 had WARN filings ( the XLS file is available to see from the CA website). A commenter said that those are associated with the recent announcements to staff in Redwood City/Pleasanton/Santa Clara and it just means that Oracle sends them home/deactivates their stuff but they are technically employees for the 60-day span, which goes to mid October. The Mercury News reported that employees in those locations were notified already, to confirm that.

Am I misunderstanding how this works?

Maybe. But all the WARN notices point to an Oct 10-13 date for the next round. Which is the larger one.
