What Is “Quiet Cracking”?

Quiet cracking describes a progressive decline in employee engagement and overall workplace fulfillment. While team members continue to meet business objectives, they may experience reduced motivation, diminished connection to our culture, and lower levels of energy. Unlike overt burnout or voluntary attrition, quiet cracking often develops beneath the surface, making it harder to identify until it impacts performance, productivity, and overall wellbeing.

I wonder how many of us hate going to work everyday but sqelch it in order to make it through. Trying to manage the chaos that comes from speed at all costs while head count is cut. Eek more out of the su-kers who are by nature accountable for quality work. Work people into the ground. "Do More with Less". Assume AI, which isn't built yet to assist with most jobs beyond writing email, or isn't accurate if it is, is filling the gap--not the sweat of the people multitasking in every meeting in order to get their work done.

@ap I hate to be the one to tell you this but, "quiet quitting" was quite literally invented and that phrase was coined from... Gen-Z.

@ap LOL, that must be why GEN-Z kids are regularly getting canned for being lazy workers, calling in "sick" far too often, not doing work they feel is "necessary" and idk, being lazy. Plenty of articles out there that back this up if you care to go find them :)

Obviously not all of Gen-Z but they as a whole, have little to zero work ethic and feel entitled to whatever tf they think they should be. Just like the WNBA girls who feel entitled to an NBA salary, while pulling in a literal negative revenue lmfao.

Quiet quitting is something you do.

Quiet cracking is something that happens to you.

Quiet cracking is a corollary to quiet quitting. It’s what happens to your pride and your junk while you are quiet quitting.

"employees keep performing, often at full output, but internally they’re disengaging, demoralized, and mentally wearing down."

Dell cares only about the performing at full output side and you are all on your own for the disengaged, demoralized, and mentally worn down side.

@a7 I happen to be a fan of Gen Z. From what I know, I doubt they are the ones quite quitting. In fact, they’re the ones that had to work their a-s off to get a job during these crazy times.

With quiet quitting, Employees set boundaries doing exactly what’s in their job description, no more, no less. With quiet cracking, employees keep performing, often at full output, but internally they’re disengaging, demoralized, and mentally wearing down.

They say be grateful you have a job, or crack quietly please.

At Dell, quiet cracking isn’t a warning sign it’s the employee handbook. Most of us are already broken, we just log in every morning to pretend otherwise.
