Lawsuit

The complaint targeting de la Torre and fellow “insiders” who had held leadership positions and served on Steward boards—Michael Callum, M.D., Sanjay Shetty, M.D., and James Karam—looks to recoup much of a $111 million dividend authorized and paid out in 2021 when Steward was already insolvent.

@OP Steward Health Care, once the largest private hospital system in the United States, filed for bankruptcy last year, causing significant distress to providers and patients. In Massachusetts, five of the eight Steward-owned hospitals were salvaged by the state, while two were closed.
In Boston, there were reports alleging that a woman who was giving birth passed away at Stewart Healthcare Hospital after a crucial medical device was repossessed by the manufacturer due to unpaid bills owed by Stewart Healthcare. Executives, including CEO Ralph de la Torre, reportedly made millions of dollars while a mother died in their hospital. This situation surpasses mere greed and constitutes criminal behavior.
