Hey folks,
I'm trying to get out of my current toxic/underpaying job position that I'm absolutely miserable at, but potentially stable-ish in. I just started this current position 3 months ago after being laid off by another large tech company (whose name starts with C).
I'm under consideration for 3 different engineering positions, 2 leads and 1 senior.
Trying to figure out the likelihood I'll experience yet another layoff - and how soon, even - if I decide to jump ship from my current to Centene.

the engineering and data side of this company are pretty decent work life balances. The vast majority of people posting here are not in these departments.
Most offers will come in at 35-40% of the ceiling.
@et I have not worked in the area you're looking but I and many others would tell you that "Centene" and "good mental health" or "work life balance" or even "healthy working environment" are mutually exclusive. I see a lot of stuff at this company that really concerns me about the culture here, about management, about how work gets done.
I really worry about a lot of the people I work with, like they are not healthy and it's because of working at this place. And the company is tanking in terms of performance. That is real. The grass may be greener here, for you but it hasn't turned out that way for me and a lot of other folks.
Just make sure you really think about it, reflect on your interview experience and do what's best for yourself.
@ek trust me I get it. I was in the same boat. My last job let me go (budget cuts) the day I got an offer for my current. BUT - I highly regret taking my current job. I'd rather work retail or just be a freelance or just unemployed. My mental health was miles better with pending unemployment lol. I've never hated a position so much.
@ag
Thanks, yeah it's FTE for all of the positions (2 leads, 1 senior). Have the video interviews and all soon.
Honestly... even the lower range for those positions is 10k-20k more than I make now. The upper range is close to 1.5x to 2x the pay that I'm making currently. It's tempting even with layoffs. I miss having a boss who recalls conversations and is somewhat sane
If you feel your current job is stable, I would not advise jumping ship at this point. Although it is looking like the whole economy is in a deepening recession, health insurance companies are in particularly bad shape at the moment. If you're stable and you can tolerate it, stay put and wait this out.
Good luck - honestly, taking any job anywhere in today's climate is high risk. The last couple of years in particular have shown that it doesn't matter who you are, why you were hired, if you're an asset or any other thing you can think of that you think may keep you from getting laid off is not remotely a consideration anymore. You're a cog in the machine, nothing more. Sorry, but that is the sad truth of it - you could get hired and a month along, your position gets dissolved or something along those lines. It's happened to several people I know in this company. You have to decide for yourself if it's worth taking that chance - if they consider and offer a position that is. If they don't, you're no worse off than you were before.
Honestly, it's not out of the question. If this is an FTE role and not Senior/Lead, but we'll still make you a contractor or Contract to Hire (wink, wink), you're safer as the former.
Also, the wonderful posted salary range? Thoughts and prayers you can land even within 35% of the ceiling of that.
to be clear, the job I WAS laid off from, whose company name starts with C, is not Centene lol. I'm being considered/interviewed for positions at Centene.
