Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

People team Townhall

What a waste of time!
A large portion of the people team is remote and will be laid off. Why can’t we ask real questions instead of the pre-programmed questions about AI?
Shannon says “we cannot communicate too much”. Yet, when it comes to the issues that truly impact the people on the People team, she stays very tight-lipped

I’m not too familiar with the People Team or them possibly being laid off (wouldn’t surprise me) but what I can tell you is a useless town hall is the least of your worries at BNY. They are systemically and unethically sc--wing over the majority of employees that didnt come from the outside - mostly Goldman Sachs. If came from GS you are fine and already know that. Recent college grads probably ok as well. As for all others, prepare for the worst. Trust me it’s coming.

This is unhealthy and sad. BNY associates are not stupid and don't appreciate being lied to or kept in the dark. That's the quickest way to erode trust, confidence in leadership and culture. In fact, these are the main reasons why people are on this site and commenting about BNY workplace and deplorable people management behavior.

Not that it matters but The People Team would be better off to communicate early and often throughout the change process. This means acting more intentionally with greater transparency, by showing receptiveness and responding to feedback on really important people concerns, and providing clear organizational direction on people management matters. So why all the secrecy? It only leads to more fear, uncertainty and doubt.

That explains why many of our (former) India counterparts have the “VVV” on their e-mail addresses. The ones who are left are so hard to understand and they have serious comprehension problems. Nice people; no one doubts that. But we are in serious trouble outsourcing so much. Without our constant tutelage (and even with it), they are doomed to fail…unless that is the result that is wanted (!)

“we cannot communicate too much”
LOL, then what is the point of communication at all? How does this firm have the gall to use words like transparency, one on one, teamwork and upfront when you get this load of bull from the top of HR?
Total garbage at BNY!

@a5 It sure is going to backfire big time and the language barrier is so hard to get over. I’m constantly on calls trying to understand what they are saying and I get off the call even more clueless than before I got on the call and I’m not what the turnover rate is over there but I’m constantly training different ppl every 3 months on how to do there job.

All this outsourcing to India is going to backfire big time on BNY. It already is starting to happen. So many of them don’t know what they are doing and have to constantly be retrained. Also, massive security breaches are a constant worry with their involvement. Cheap labor has its bad karma.

These townhalls are always so nauseating. Nothing but falsehoods and propaganda. AI- what a joke! “Embrace AI so it can take your job” LOL! What is worse- all those brown-nosers during the Charlie era who would write vomit-inducing comments on his blog. Yuck!
