Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Mark J. Barrenechea’s reported CEO compensation

Mark J. Barrenechea’s reported CEO compensation at OpenText across his entire tenure to date (FY2012–FY2024) : $155,589,551USD.

2023-2025 he fired about 5000 people.

He cut merits to the bare minimum.

He cut costs everywhere he could.

Yet he made millions, flew private because he didn’t want to be in contact with the unwashed masses, he stayed at the most expensive hotels, are the most expensive food and always got security as if he were a foreign dignitary.

He destroyed the company… he destroyed thousands of lives.. he lived like a king while everyone else was overworked and under appreciated.

He was a king, not a leader.

@171 if we weren't gambling on how many more were getting laid off and how many product consolidations we're in for, maybe.

We have to very carefully define what he was supposed to do. You can lead people through a minefield and be called a hero - all because you knew where the ones you planted were. Stakeholders wouldn't know until it explodes later. Kinda like it is now.

I was affected by the layoffs in 2023. They basically forced me into retirement. At my age it was impossible to get another job. I'm sure his golden parachute was more than the 4 weeks severance I received for the 6 years I worked for Open Text. .

In other words, he succeeded at the job he was hired to do.

Mark's $150 million is equivalent to 1200 jobs that OT planned to shed to save cost of $150 million.
Should have got rid of Mark earlier and kept 1200 people who does actual work.

Most deserved firing ever. I wonder if he was surprised when they canned him? You can only acquire companies and grind the life out of them for so long. At some point you need some organic growth. Hopefully the ridiculous Aviator mascots get the boot next. At least we won’t have to see his d-mb a-s prancing around on stage with those freakish things like a toddler meeting Mickey Mouse at Disneyland for the first time again. Good riddance.

@ay If only the board knew that the President of Sales, Todd Cione, hired one of his best buddies, Reid D, for a fake job where he sat idle for 4 or 5 months while Reid waited for his new job at a start up to be ready. Time for Todd Cione to be exited from the business.

So he stole 150 million dollars worth of value from OpenText. And the board let this happen. For 10+ years. Let that sink in. They had 10 years to finally come to the realization that Mark is nothing more than a fat schmuck.

I don't think Mark is the only person who needs to be fired, you're looking at like 10+ top executives who need to be kicked out the door alongside him.

150 million dollars. And they decided it would be better to cut out valuable workers instead of firing this gigantic toddler. This company is run by mo--ns I swear.

He enjoyed all the privileges that a thief might enjoy, but now he rests in the trash bin of history. He will be remembered as a villain who lived at the expense of his employees. He endorsed the worst form of management: micromanagement, where every employee acted as a spy reporting to their manager, and senior managers spied on their own subordinates. A man without quality or merit. Finally, he got what he richly deserved.

What an absolute dirt-bag! Now maybe OT can prosper by focusing on technology instead of the annual DEI/Social narrative from "MB the bone-head". Maybe he should give the land his home is on in California back to the indigenous people of that area! I sure hope a different company does not make the mistake of hiring him as a CEO. His track record speaks for itself.
