What happened to Nike and DEI?

Feels like Nike doesn’t talk about DEI much anymore. Makes me wonder… did they ever really mean it, or was it just for show to make money back then?

Now that things have shifted politically, it seems like Nike backed off. Did they actually believe in it, or just go with whatever was popular at the time?

People have gone silent in supporting DEI. Funny how once politics changed people stopped bringing it up. It was only a matter of time before it all fell apart. Now, you have unqualified people stuck in big roles continuing to make bad choices, or worse, just sitting on their hands.

Didn’t Nike say, moving forward, it’s going to stop sharing this information publicly? I recall hearing that mentioned somewhere. Also looks to me like the online portal contains much less information for fiscal 2024 than what was shared for 2023.

Unlike many companies, Nike continues to clearly share its commitment to DEI publicly https://about.nike.com/en/mission/focus-areas/diversity-equity-inclusion-at-nike

The E in DEI stands for equity.

For Nike to have actually believed that BS, the board would have to buy back all their stock, gift all that NKE stock to employees and the underserved commyoooounity, and become a co-op or socialist NGO.

CK's helmet-incompatible explosive 'fro was always Nike's way of saying F errr-wun and F errr-thang, we're all just here to take your money while we secretly despise all y'all.

My coworker doesn’t have a high school diploma or college degree, but her dad works in finance so she’s paid up & gets away with a lot. TA is full of nepotism!!!!

|The “Pre-DEI” days damn sure weren’t about merit.

That also needs to go. But you can't justify bad behavior with bad behavior. Thats what 6 year old do.

"Well he did it, so I should get to!"

@cp that’s because there is a massive reorg going on, dude. Nike Hr doesn’t approve positions for organizations that might not exist in the future. I heard like 90% of the DEI team got wiped out and this is them restructuring their team.

Their reorg is done, ours isn’t.

@cj Maybe. But back then, the company was at least led by capable leaders. The current leadership doesn’t hold a candle to those of the past. Filtering hiring based on gender and race to achieve diversity targets has not strengthened Nike. As a poster below mentioned, DEI has always been about optics over substance.

There’s a sr principal role for DEI open right now and no other department can get roles at that level Even back filled. What does that tell you

Now it’s time for race and s-xuality based groups to be banned.

My favorite take on here is when folks act like Nike hasn’t been a nepotism factory this entire time. Merit? The “Pre-DEI” days damn sure weren’t about merit.

So glad the racist DEI movement is being dismantled. Hiring for a role on anything other than merit is unacceptable.

if Nike has been expert on, it would be to stand on the right side of Federal politics.

when NIke saw it is good be on the side of DEI with liberal administration, they sign up and trumpeted as if they are the only one and invented whole thing.
Now that Trump is in the office, they quietly withdrew whole effort as if never existed.

THAT IS TYPICAL NIKE!!!
If they truly believe it, they should be standing for DEI despite Trump administration.

Giving preferential treatment o someone (or discriminating against them) based on s-x or race are the definitions of s-xism and racism.

How could anyone think it would help Nike to hire based on anything other than merit?

Very shortly after it was implemented, key decision makers and stakeholders came to realize it was destined for failure.

Any framework that leads to not hiring the most capable and qualified candidates is bound to weaken the enterprise. Not only because of the sub-optimal hires themselves, but also the morale drag on the employee base at large.

Glad it's gone. I hope it never returns.

Political climate doesn’t really help. Trump is targeting public companies who support DEI policies. That’s what’s happening. We’re laying low and attempting to avoid getting bunch in the gut while we’re down.

Nike’s commitment to DEI was always more about optics than substance. With the exception of KL, the leaders of DEI have been an embarrassment. I genuinely feel for KM, if DEI truly mattered, she would have been given the role previously. Instead, they passed her over for the shiny object of JS. Now, there’s no political capital left in it, so no one really cares.
