Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Belk is the dog and pony show

The Belk “Dog n Pony” show has gone on for decades where DM level mgmt steers visits to certain stores, pulls mgmt or associates to clean up and primp locations, in an effort to have a “good walk”

Here are all the reasons that mentality and approach are so wrong:

1.) shows teams you care more about company visits more than customers and neglects stores like this one!
2.) shows teams you FEAR . . .

  - company visits,
  - accountability
  - reality,
  - challenge

3.) shows teams you LACK ability to . . .

  - train
  - teach
  - execute
  - plan
  - show empathy
  - manage in crisis or adversity
  - have managerial courage to ask
     for help
  - act in their or companies best
     interests
  - hold yourself / others accountable

When you participate in the dog n pony show mentality you are lying to
YOUR TEAM
YOURSELF
YOUR SUPERVISOR
YOUR COMPANY
YOUR CUSTOMERS

Any District, Regional, or Corp executive that still participates in this nonsensical practice is frankly a fool.
Any company that embraces this dog n pony show to have glossy visits with no substantive engagement with the store teams is NOT the company you want to work for!

You hit the nail right on the head. And it is becoming more and more apparent each day.

All true. I was working for Belk, now I’m working for another retailer. Same. People on very top are only worry about their personal gain. They don’t want to know about B&M problems. If they did, they would start from (1) visiting store unannounced, (2) reducing endless corporate levels of management, (3) invest in marketing to keep up with relevance and desirability of merchandise, (4) staff stores to make possible to keep up with business on a level that customers will enjoy shopping trips. They don’t want to do any of that. That’s why RVPs have to operate on the way you described. If they don’t make “dog and pony show “ happen, they’re gone.
