Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Aramco Culture - the best in every wrong way.

Some say its the worst place west of the Nile, others some kind of Mecca. Who is right?

From what I have seen it's a tribal, backwards atmosphere run almost exclusively by people that are from the right caste. There's no accountability for decisions and there's untold amounts being squandered and going out of the back door to who knows where.

The people I have met in positions of influence are deeply cynical, untrustworthy, on-edge, largely dim, lack moral courage and fiber, or any shred of integrity - I'm quite sure they would sell kidney to gain an advantage over a peer. They have no experience outside Aramco and do not hold a candle to their industry peers. The cultural in---t and internal rivalry does not befit any commercial organization I have ever seen, it's every man for himself, just like the way they drive on the roads...

@4jq this typical HR response comes up every time, as if a justification for the lies, misinformation and racism from local management. Disgraceful.

Sad thing is, folks complain, yet stick on. Either untalented, or simply like it there.

@24r

Wow! What a bleak picture. Why would anyone subject themselves to such an existence?
There were issues when I was there, and I considered it unfair at times, but it was their game their rules. But now it sounds intolerable, my condolences. To be cliche', nothing good lasts or everything changes.

Both those posts could well be true, BUT they are from a bygone era pre 2013 when the payrolls were first cut.

They are history, a relic of an expat era that is over. They are relics that belong in a museum and are not accurate based on what happens today. Does look like planted posts from HR or other paid up shills from aramcoexpats...

The cold hard reality as of 2025 is: RIP - Retirement in place... the pension is gone (yes that's zero), the repat is cut 30%, wages are frozen at 2013 levels, promotions after 4-5 years are impossible, moving above GC14 is zero (there is a secret policy that prohibits it in corporate), and the severance is set at just 2 weeks base pay per year of employment (you get FA if you leave pre 2 years....)

Also add in costs such as VAT (15% on everything), expat iqama taxes ($3500 per year), schooling fees for K4 (yes that used to be free!),and the fact that as an expat your annual increment will max out at 2%. Then all of the nonsense caused by m0ronization, living around people that you'll never see, dilapidated facilities a testament to yesteryear, declining school experience (fancy being in a class of subcontinentals learning Indian English), a community with its heart ripped out etc etc etc...

Had a great time from 2012 till 2019 on Global Payroll. Kids grew up there and attended elementary and middle school. Great benefits and a salary impossible to match even close at home. Now able to live a life that would not have been possible w/o Aramco.
Now employed at a different company with no problem.

21 years with the company, old U.S. payroll. Worked my a-s off, and was duly rewarded for my efforts. Best thing that happened during my career was working at and retiring from Aramco. Kids attended boarding school in Switzerland, fantastic health benefits, GC promotion every 4-5 years, business class re-pat and a defined pension as well as 401(k). My time in Kingdom enabled me to pay off my home, plus a Condo in Florida and a timeshare in Aspen. We have no debt and rely upon half of what we get from our monthly pension; that includes a month of travel outside the U.S. annually. Am not sure of the current situation there, but suffice to say we retired extremely well funded and have nothing but fond memories of our life at Aramco, extremely grateful.

The worst of the Aramcons know they are unemployable back home. In addition to being poor performers they are also insufferable for other employees to tolerate and work with.

Therefore they bully, scam and manipulate their way to promotion to extend their life on camp right up until retirement age of they can. Using and disposing of people is a common strategy.

Working at Aramco is a constant battle against toxic leadership, blatant favoritism, and a complete lack of respect for employee well-being. The environment is unprofessional, demoralizing, and driven by ego rather than competence. Good luck for those thinking about working for this company
