Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Career Progression

Survived the 1st round. Quickly realized my career progression is done. The mid-level steps to traditionally move up are going to India. In the US, it is literally field based or management. I’m not sure how this will be rectified. Only people who previously held mid-level or advisor roles (which are now gone), can move forward. Interesting move for Chevron to ki-l future prospects. My co-workers all don’t care and are happy to coast to retirement in an easy job, but I’m young enough to want to move forward in my career. Managers have outright said they don’t know either. Not sure what to do.

@OP, No one here knows how the new organization will function to provide guidance. The managers you talked with have no idea. If you feel that something is not right and there is no future, I would suggest exploring options outside the company. Find a job in an industry that cannot be easily outsourced, such as power generation. Good luck.

I’ve been told explicitly by my retiring boss that lower PSGs and fewer promotions is by design. And, it absolutely matches what I saw in my function - almost nothing above a psg 23 exists any more.

@OP I see plenty of opportunity in the future for the reasons you mentioned.

Google how many jobs AI will replace in the next 18 months. India will grow as the US shrinks, but then India will shrink too and eventually it will just be field and management and like 4 dudes that also “collect gift cards” on the side with ChevGPT cranking out the tech work. I survived this round but next I’m going to AEOI and use my package to buy a Tesla and drive uber as a “semi-retired engineer” on LinkedIn

Yes, yes, I hear but you do realise my caviar isn't the right temperature? Let's focus on the crucial issue first. Now, when am I due on the first tee?
