Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Cigna stock down 8%

Here is a comment from Yahoo message board. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/CI/community/
More layoffs coming?

Institutions were displeased to see that the US commercial membership account number continues to decline. It happens every quarter, every year. Cigna now has a smaller commercial book today than they did in 2015. This makes the PBM an even bigger target for regulatory attack. Cigna's overreliance on the PBM, rather than growing out their commercial health insurance biz, that's the pushback to the long thesis. The white collar workers making up the bulk of the Cigna commercial book; likely most of them are at risk of displacement by AI in the coming years. And an AI algorithm does not require health, vision or dental coverage.

Hmmm I wonder if there is correlation to this company tanking and having a severe lack of innovation and all of the layoffs.

They got rid of a bunch of IT Principals because leadership didnt know how to use band 5 thought leaders.

They also got rid of a bunch of good band 4s for the same reason.

The best and brightest are leaving for better offers elsewhere due to the risk of layoff.

Current Band 5 and Band 6 throwing money at HIH and AI while not actually knowing about AI.

We need new Band 5 and Band 6 leaders pretty badly. This is awful.

Oh let's JE more people Band 1-4 employees to solve the problem, whilst hiring more Band 5 and 6 employees. ~Probably the ELT

Basically Cordani and the rest of leadership have absolutely no strategy or vision. The only thing I've heard is somehow decreasing costs by throwing HIH and AI at it, but there's no vision on what HIH or AI are supposed to build or what precise costs they'll help reduce. Cigna is in managed decline.
