Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

In office hours being tracked

Someone commented in one of the earlier posts about how the company has been tracking hours in office… has anyone here heard of this and can confirm?

Just a precaution, in the office don't use company wifi on your phone.

@e8

Lol - nobody gets laid off based on the number of emails you send or receive.

TIAA actually tracks keystrokes, active login time on the computer, emails sent and emails received. These components play a major role who stays and who goes.

No rules yet.

I feel like TIAA is becoming a kindergarten class.

Better eat all my PBJ or else I won’t be able to play outside during recess.

What is the minimum hours required to stay at the office? No one has told me that, just 3x a week. Is it in the policy book anywhere? Has anyone heard of someone getting in trouble for not staying the whole day?

@c2 yes. Completely agree to everything you said.

If hours are tracked once one hits the requirement for the day/week then they won’t login when they arrive home. No more nights and weekends once one hits 40 hours, regardless of non exempt or exempt status.

What a great way to get folks to put in their hours in office and work very little at home to achieve that “work life balance” lie constantly preached about and allow associates to work their pay/wage due to inflation and lack of COL or performance pay increases.

If they do start tracking hours in office, people will work even less.

I know I will. This will mean more employees hitting the gym, doomscrolling in random locations on campus, and walking in circles until that in office time limit is reached.

This is a great way for more employees to do even less work. Treat professionals like children and get the work ethic of children. What would help? More money. A friggin COLA would be nice. Until that happens, I’ll work as hard as my inflation adjusted income dictates.

@OP not sure IF it’s being tracked now but obviously they CAN see what day you used tour badge so there is at least an entry timestamp to track in office days.

As others said there is the IP address and other software to tell where you are and then can math out the hours in versus home versus working and idle time.

Nonexempt or hourly associates may have an average hours that they need to be in the office and online period that is different than exempt folks. Overtime for nonexempt folks has been limited and highly scrutinized for a very long time here.

So it will be interesting to see how things or can be implemented since a lot of exempt folks work more than 40 hours (and weekends) and some less than 40 since no system to punch in/out for them.

@a8 agree completely. One thing to note is only Charlotte and Frisco would be able to track in/out via license plates. Not sure about offshore like India. So not a great way to tell when someone leaves office as other sites you don’t have to “badge out”.

But even before license plate readers Charlotte could tell with your badge or the transponder inside the car.

As you said the simplest way is via IP address onsite vs someone’s home and via Cisco Anyconnect which is always running and shows when connected until disconnected.

If hours being tracked is true then no more ‘dilly dallying’ or chatting with other associates once you arrive on site. Straight to your desk and turn on the PC and login so the clock starts as early as possible. Maybe boot up and login via the WiFi as you’re walking to the entrance/desk.

Absolutely true. They can tell by your IP address how long you’re on the network and can pull the data at any time. Not sure if they’re doing it for everyone but I know the capability is there. Also, be leery of the push to register your license plate for “easier” gate access.
