Eventually we will have accurate resource tagging. Then, eventually someone will run an analysis on compute cost efficiency comparing FTE and contracted solutions.

They’ll see the 20% savings on personnel results in a 1000% larger bill to AWS. We can’t even use splunk anymore because these crews barely deliver deployable services let alone something that doesn’t create hundreds of TB of useless logs every year. Now we have to bring our log datalake in-house to lower costs? LOL! As if the platform is the problem.

Cheap engineers create expensive solutions problems.

@cf I bet you got laid off because Cognizant / any tech vendor made you irrelevant.

Agree though that these companies tend to focus on only low cost and not always maintaining quality, which leads to issues like this. Unfortunately as well this is driven by people very high up in those kinds of companies so any leadership on the ground or teams on the ground with clients end up stuck in the middle doing the best they can.

Having a strong core team directly managed by Nike would keep things more under control, but the model across so many companies is to just outsource all these services to companies like this. I would say this is a hiring trend issue for technology related services as a whole, it showcases the cons of this model when these kinds of issues come up.

Companies wanting to focus on their core competencies end up having to choose cost effective ways to handle these issues. Issues like what this article is mentioning have happened across many of these companies. Maybe we will see an in-sourcing trend as we move forward.
