I don't even know what to say anymore. I wasn't expecting a follow-up email and expecting even less that they would have any clear message to give us as to whether the axe will begin to fall and when - just a "wait until the meeting so we can tell you our plans moving forward" if there is a plan outside of layoffs at all. The layoffs have been a vicious cycle at least quarterly across various LOB since 2020. I think a lot of people are past worrying that it will happen, and now are just expecting it. There is no job security anywhere. AND no, I do not accept the "it happens all the time" "it's just business" reply that I am sure some will make. Just all around completely disappointed in this company every single day.

@ms Remote workers who are direct hires in California are generally covered under WARN and the company does not even have to be headquartered in Cali. The 50 worker in 30day rule is a California state thing and it does cover remote workers in most cases. Remote workers are normally connected to the site where they get their equipment and tech servicing. The penalties for trying to skirt this in Cali are pretty severe and are assessed per individual worker. This has already been tested in court with a few smaller employers and they will be very careful as the momentum is not on their side. Maybe there is another workaround for them but with mass layoffs it will be tricky. Fifty workers is nothing in this climate and Cali will be hit hard.
@jm I think they had a warn notice issued when they laid off a chunk of people in CA, but that's more the exception due to how their state laws are. They've been laying people off in waves at different points of the year for the past few years and to my knowledge haven't had warn notices issued.
I wonder if it's because so much of the workforce is remote and the warn act specifically mentions plant closures and laying off employees at physical work sites? That would make the most sense unfortunately.
@a4 Centene never issued a WARN notice previously
Yea l heard that too. Thinly veiled way of saying staffing changes are part of the solution
Wellcare Medicare appeals team we were notified a month ago we are being outsourced effective end of year to NTT data India. The way things are going we might not make it to end of the year.
On the investor call this morning Sarah referenced “SG&A opportunities as we right-size the business going into 2026”. The message is clear.
Layoffs are likely but none of us are going to know about it until it happens. So my advice would be to think about what you want to do with your career moving forward. I wouldn't tell anyone here that it's a bad idea to at least start looking at employment elsewhere and pursue something outside of health insurance if at all possible.
Holy cr@p. Every one of our products is circling the drain. Marketplace, Medicaid, and Medicare. Heck Care isn’t even expected to grow until 2027.
Hold onto your hats everyone. It’s about to get more bumpy than ever before.
@a4 Yes, technically it requires a warn notice, but they have gotten around that by laying off small numbers of people across multiple states. Last warn notice was in CA April of 2024 before that was in March 2021.
Doubt the expected email on Monday will provide any clarity other than very high level CEO chatter about overcoming obstacles. Doubt they will broadcast anything specific about potential layoffs so as to no spook tue staff more than they already are after the earnings call. Any large scale layoffs would require a WARN notice which is public record.
