Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Sammy’s Green Grass

To everyone at HQ—look at the grass in the courtyard. From far away, it looks green, but up close it’s full of weeds. That’s exactly what’s happening with our leadership. Just because someone has a fancy title—VP, SD, specially EVP—doesn’t mean they’re competent. Most of them are dead weight. The so-called elite of this company are like that weed-covered lawn: fake appearances hiding serious neglect.

And the worst part? They’re still pushing the same outdated, erroneous ideas we were doing 10 years ago. Nothing innovative. Nothing forward-thinking. Just recycled failures. There is no real future here—it’s a dinosaur waiting to go extinct. Someone needs to pull the weeds, but let’s not kid ourselves—it won’t be Isao. And as long as we keep following weak, misguided leadership, we’re all stuck in the same decay. It feels like leadership has dragged us straight back to 2015—back when we had to wear suits just to sit in a meeting. Again, outdated mindsets, recycled ideas, and the same tired strategies that didn’t work then and won’t work now. There’s no real innovation, no vision—just the same old playbook being run by people clinging to power.

The comment about projects getting scrapped (sometimes after they are COMPLETED) is 1,000% true. This hurts people’s career prospects too, investing major time and effort for something that never sees the light of day. It’s a nightmare and a watch out for you all, it’s hard to have “achievements” working at this company, which means you’re less marketable to the outside. Saw it happen so many times.

The conversion project was scrapped soon after Sammy was made CEO. They probably planned the CSA-CUSA merger + layoffs and decided the conversion project was not worth the investment. In 2026 I expect them to announce an ERP conversion to a cloud based system. Merging CUSA21, CSG21, and CSG Oracle. It makes the most sense from a business perspective. S21 is not capable of integrating AI and other modern tooling.

Chromebook + cloud ERP would allow for more streamlined processes and either automation or easier outsourcing for reduction in overhead (RIF). Although, the ERP transition will likely take 3-5 years.

Whatever happened to the Oracle-S21 conversion that was in the works a few years ago with CSG? Did Sammy nix those plans? One of the things I absolutely despise about Canon is the lack of focus and execution. So much time is wasted on projects that are left incomplete because management is constantly changing priorities and moving the goal posts. They claim it’s being “agile”, but I think it’s Attention Deficit Disorder. All the effort and time spent by BPR and other teams on the conversion, and poof….it’s been canned. It’s so frickin’ disrespectful to treat employees like that. They do this with everything. That’s why I’ve stopped trying so hard. They whine, “I want this, I want that”. Just wait 5 minutes and they will forget about what they just demanded and scream about something else. Completely toxic workplace.

@bc You think Oracle is bad try S21. Yes, our own home-grown system that has so many bugs on a daily basis it's not even funny anymore. How about the fact that people who leave certain positions are not being replaced but their work is being shuffled to contractors in the Philippines. What does that tell everyone?

They all think AI is The Answer (haha, no pun intended!), but of course they don’t have the expertise or resources to build and utilize it like a more modern, sophisticated organization. This company’s operations are too complicated and outdated for any technology to comprehend. Oracle 11i? Using an abacus is more user-friendly. Nothing this company does makes sense, and the financial results defy logic. Maybe these corporate suits, or as I like to call them “The Giorgio Armanis”, should focus their energy on simplifying procedures, and stop making what should be straightforward tasks into quantum physics homework assignments.

There are no charismatic leaders left the people can relate to and want to go the extra mile for. I can barely understand the communication from some of our “leaders” who have been placed into power over the last year or two. Much less be able to identify a modern strategy to improve the business. When you promote the wrong people, you lose the right ones.
