Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

This is not normal

If you’ve been telling yourself this is just how it is, please stop. There are companies that treat people with respect and value their time. You don’t have to settle for constant stress and zero recognition. You really do deserve more. Don’t let a bad job convince you otherwise.

And before anyone calls me out for still being here, I am close to retirement, so I have no reason to leave. But I have seen what happens when people do. A few former coworkers are like new people now. You can literally see the change in them, how much more relaxed and happier they are. So this is just some advice from someone who has been around for a while and knows how things work.

Does anyone find it ironic?
We have a president who is fighting globalization by bringing manufacturing jobs back to the US. While in real time White collar jobs are being sent out of the country?
The more things change the more they remain the same
Different day same sh-t

@cp, this is it.

Whilst the pay is decent, it’s not life altering. It’s not going to elevate you to the upper echelons of society. It’s not going to catapult you into the inner circle.

For 90% of us, it’s an above average, middle-class job. And an above-average, middle-class job is not worth selling your soul for, compared to an average middle-class job.

These companies just su-k the soul out of you for decent pay and benefits. None of us getting rich here, enjoy life folks.

If the powers that be wonder why people aren't having kids and starting families, having to deal with the constant uncertainty in employment plus tying health insurance to employment is another huge reason why people are delaying having kids.

@ak not everyone wants a cushy job — some people want to do something more meaningful with their lives.

And the problem with cushy jobs is that performance becomes all about politics and giving the illusion of productivity, rather than meaningful work output. And that can be soul destroying if that’s not your personality type.

so, honestly, i agree with both the OP and one of the replies about automation

here is why -
to free yourself simply leave oil and gas entirely. this is the new normal for energy. it’s happening at literally every single major - check they layoff pages for proof. that being, shipping all work to to india. but that’s not true for many other industries.

to be free, simply find a job in an industry where this doesn’t happen. it’s easier than it sounds. you need to accept that the oil and gas industry has turned its back on you and faced no consequences. there is no revenge to take or short term consequence that will come to them from it. accept that, unplug yourself from the matrix, and be free

Chevron people are so soft. Go work elsewhere and tell me this isn’t one of the cushiest jobs out there. People are just pi---d because they’re no longer being pampered.

Sorry OP, but this IS the new normal. We might not like it but that doesn’t matter. It’s all about shareholder value. That means more automation, more overseas jobs, and less reliance on an experienced workforce here in the states.
Welcome to the new world order.
