Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

We can't have more layoffs

We can't afford to lose anybody else. That's the honest truth. If we do, everybody else on my team will walk. If that's the goal, then fine. But if it's not, then the management really needs to pay attention to how much more any of us can take, especially when it comes to extra work.

What do us mor eexperienced people do if industries only want to save money? What future does 50+ folks have in the workforce?

Relax, every few years the company will push out the more experienced and replace them with college grads. Your team won’t shrink. It’ll just look younger.

It's normal for a team or role to have more work to do than time allotted. Cuts require the team to high-grade work, streamline workflows, and abandon low-value activities.

I’m shocked, absolutely shocked that a billion dollar nxtgen project didn’t reduce work /s

As is standard, we bought the BS that the consultants sold us…while they walk away with millions. A tale as old as time.

My team is full time busy, and we are going to take cuts anyways. The cart is coming before the horse. We should be working on projects that will automate and take work aways. We implemented nxtgen and work did not disappear, it just looked different. I would say on a mass scale, nxtgen failed. Part of the theory was that we could shift to new platforms much easier in the future, but I am not convinced that it wouldn't take another Act of Congress to change ERP system, HR system, procurement system. . . . . .you know even just one of those and we wouldn't be able to move any quicker now than we could have in 2021

Not every team is like yours. Many teams do not have enough work to keep everyone busy! Hoping that’s where the majority of the cuts are…

You're assuming there won't be any changes to your role or function, which may be a wild assumption to begin with. I don't know what your role is but it's not like layoffs have already happened. You'll have to wait to see what happens along with the rest of us.
