Ok, Target must be in real trouble if they are dropping the price match policy of which they were always so proud. Guess they have decided they can’t play with the big dogs anymore (WalMart, Amazon). Feels like an identity problem at the Bullseye. Target isn’t espousing DEI and they are admitting they aren’t the lowest priced. So what IS Target all about? Wal-Mart dropped their price match guarantee a few years ago, and other retailers have done the same in that same time period. It's only newsworthy because it looks like another Target mis-step.
@e1 depends on what it is. Competitive doesn’t not mean t-t for tat, and the CircleCard 5% definitely brings us closer on pricing for the national brands that our competitors carry. The problem is that it requires an application, which people understandably don’t want to be bothered with.
Now outside of those widely recognized brands, we lack a compelling assortment to use that discount on. Our in-house brands are very hit or miss these days.
@c0 but we aren’t price competitive even with circle. That is factually not true.
As a TM (with all of the discounts) I’m buying diapers and allergy meds at Costco. And when Nordstrom or Amazon have a better deal on makeup, I’m absolutely not loyal to TGT. I’ll save the $$.

Bingo. It’s a shortsighted play for what we’re unwilling to admit has been a flop of a loyalty program.
