Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

This place rewards compliance, not results

The ones who push for change burn out or get ignored, while the "yes-men" climb the ladder. Hard work means nothing, it’s all about playing the game. They literally turned me into a bad employee because I figured out what it takes to progress here. I couldn't stomach it for too long though, so I'm leaving. But I won't miss Fido one bit.

One of the reasons I left. Quite demoralizing when you want to have an impact and do an amazing job.
The apathy and/or fake enthusiasm for work that made no sense made me crazy. And the huge kudos for work that was complete but totally unnecessary was just annoying.
It is not like this everywhere. It’s head scratching.

Having done three years at Fid, I can tell you this is not the coporate norm. At the Boston HQ'd bank where I work now, it's the disruptors who challenge the status quo that get ahead. It's the Fidelity way, rewards compliance, punish originality.

You are governed by an authoritarian "president", so fall in line in all aspects of your life.

That’s the corporate world man. They point, you shoot. They don’t care that you’ve found actually beneficial changes for the customer. They only care that you can show them you are doing what they told their higher ups they’d do. Not unique to fidelity, best of luck to you to find a more rewarding company.
