This happened to me. I had a lot of mental stress over this and I was let go.

@1e6 did you read what I wrote? How long have you been with Chevron? If you’ve been around for a while, you would know that we routinely used the Dropbox to share larger files. It wasn’t something that was emailed to me. I found the file in the Drop ox while I was looking for something that was shared with me. Not everything is a conspiracy or wild stories. Sometimes it is pure and simple incompetence and carelessness. My point was simply to not assume that your info is 100% safe.
Conspiracy theory and also people probably never landed on the moon
To the person who claims to have a list of people who have sought EAP services, I call bullsh-t. Those records are protected by HIPAA and are not shared with HR or their supervisor unless there is an eminent safety concern. They couldn’t list because HR doesn’t even know who they are.
Several years ago I went to EAP and the counselors were helpful but I was eventually moved against my request to a different team. I always thought it was suspicious but I accepted the position to keep my job.
I advise anyone interacting with HR to keep an eye open. Chevron is looking for reasons to terminate people and termination is legally defendable when you don’t cross a T or dot an I.
The fakest of news
Everyone that I’ve known personally who was received or had received any assistance or treatment from EAP was left out of a job this time. Also, EAP were all let go and will be replaced with contractors.
This needs to be said. If you are stressed or having issues you can’t resolve on your own, seek help. EAP will guide you to external support who have no incentive to divulge information and are required by law to maintain confidentiality. Your issues by themselves are not unique, everyone has problems, addressing them head-on will be good for you, your loved ones, people you work with, and your place of work. Not taking action is literally the worst alternative.
@n5 You may not like hearing it, but this post is exactly what happens with EAP. All the mean girls/boys in HR Absolutely know the details.
I have audited the HR department and they leave Social Security numbers, pay details, cancer diagnosis on their desks or in an unlocked drawer.
I’ve left so feeling like I can reveal this now: years ago when we used the Dropbox to share files that were too big to email I stumbled across a list of people who had sought EAP services. I debated at the time whether to alert someone. My own name and reason for requesting help were listed along with names and reasons of other EAP clients, including people that I knew or had been working with. Nothing is anonymous and info doesn’t get treated with the care it should. In my case I didn’t care about being exposed but there were people dealing with substance abust and relationship issues who would have been mortified I am sure if that info ever came to light. So yeah, think twice before divulging anything that you would be embarrassed to see on a bulletin board. I have more detail but don’t want to expose some of our dear friends.
Hmmm, so NOT going to EAP provides you full immunity during layoffs???
EAP is confidential by law unless you are a danger to yourself. Please do not post things like this that discourage people from using this resource at a time they truly need it.
You were likely already on the list. EAP had nothing to do with it
