Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I'm getting tired

I'm still in the thick of job hunting and it’s wearing me down. I clock out just to start my second shift applying, updating resumes, and chasing leads. Most listings ask for everything under the sun but offer barely enough to live on. It’s getting really tough staying motivated when every rejection feels personal.

A tip from someone who's been there: many if not most job listings are "fishing", looking for a combination of skills that couldn't possibly be found in a single person. Ferret out the parts of the qualifications listed that you well fit, then lean hard on those in your resume and any communications you have with the target company. Companies are more than happy to hire a good "A", even when their job description asked for A, B, C, D, E, etc. A resume alone is not enough, you need contacts in the target company. Talk to headhunters on a regular basis to get their take on available jobs, as well as contacts. Exploit those contacts on a regular basis (every two weeks), so they are familiar with you and what you are looking for. I finally hit on a cold call with a company that needed skills I had, which they hadn't even advertised for.

It's a numbers game, and you're doing the right thing.
Keep at it, and you'll land something soon.

Don't take the rejections personally. Look at it as God/the Universe/Whatever you might believe in has something better in store for you, and was helping you dodge getting mired into another unfavorable work situation, such as the one you're trying to get out from under.

Keep your spirits up - stay energized, and tell yourself every day when you're busy working on your "2nd shift," that you're that much closer to actually getting it for yourself.

Try a site such as this: https://builtin.com/
which shows pay ranges in their job listings...and some of them are fully remote, paying quite well, too! Try applying for different job titles which use your same skills. Try different industries.

Don't get discouraged; stay motivated, determined, and focused.
This is YOUR LIFE!
