Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Too many older employees are being affected

Not everybody laid off is 50+ but to me it seems that the majority of those affected are. Which means that this is not about performance in any way, shape, or form. I just hope that those who were cut decide to sue. There's a reason why age discrimination is illegal.

Actually, the bottom age for age discrimination is 40, not 50, and nearly everyone laid off in the last three years meets that criteria of “old.” You then see their job with a different title being advertised as an open role at a fraction of the pay and target bonus.

While it’s too late for those who took severance payouts to get relief, they can be used as witnesses if proper procedures are followed - and I’m sure lost would gladly testify.

@b3 Yet what appears to as the same job different title has been posted here: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7352087328103858176/

Same bad actors and you can tell it's the same job by the way it's written. "We’re in the midst of a global deployment of our customer identity platform and looking for a new teammate to join the journey."

Yes you are in the midst of a global deployment where you let someone go for whatever reason. GSOC is still playing the same ugly game since Marcos arrived.

I am a 61 year old CDW employee , and was not affected. I also took the time to get advanced certifications in the new technologies my division services. Age stereotypes can be overcome. I am not saying those affected were stereotyped or were not great performers. Sometimes, it is being in the wrong role at the wrong time. I was affected by a layoff 3 years into my first job out of college, and then jumped around to different divisions in a fortune 500 for 10 years in an attempt to avoid layoffs. It is the unfortunate characteristic of a large corporation.

yeah totally makes sense to cut the folks with decades of experience who basically kept the place from falling apart every time some hotshot VP rolled out a broken strategy from a TEDtalk. Let’s just pretend performance has nothing to do with institutional knowledge and everything to do with how fast you can say synergy during a Teams call. This isnt about ideas or hustle, it’s about cost cutting in its laziest form. They look at a spreadsheet, see someone over 50 with a decent salary and think hmm, what if we replace this person with two fresh hires who need six months of ramp-up and a manager to babysit them.

But sure, call it innovation. Call it transformation.

Just dont call it what it is: dumping the people who actually know what theyre doin so the next earnings call looks slightly less embarrassing

@a1 You're clueless and have no idea what you're talking about. Oldest workers make significant contributions to companies as nearly every study indicates. You're an ageist.

@a1 - The best teams are multi generational and unleash the synergies of a workforce that can span as many as 5 generations.

Old people- old ideas- stale and slow company full of gunk. Why do you think startups are younger people? They have new ideas and urgency.
